I like my horror, techno-thrillers, and science fiction. Which is why Jurassic Park and The Lost World are 2 of my favorite books ever!
This was the very first audiobook I ever listened to. That is, the abridged cassettes read by Denis "Wedge Antilles" Lawson, a long time ago, a couple states away. Now, finally, a perfect audiobook experience is available in this unabridged version of Heir to the Empire. This story was great when I read it back in high school, and is even better now! I always considered Timothy Zahn's trilogy to be Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, although they aren't officially recognized as such.
The sound effects were distracting at first, because I don't hear many effects in other audiobooks, but considering the sounds and music are from Star Wars ( tattooed on my brain since childhood), I found them to actually enhance the story. This is my first listen to Marc Thompson ever, and it's no wonder why he does all the Star Wars narrations. Perfection! This is quite possibly the best audiobook I have ever heard. Bring on Dark Force Rising and The Last Command! The Force is most definitely with us...
It's compelling, fun, and bring you back to what Star Wars was before the Prequels!
Grand Admiral Thrawn! he's my favorite EU character of all time.
He's smart, interesting, and has so much going for him. He's the Palpatine of the non-force-users.
It will always be Han. Just awesome.
I don't get moved by Films (with the exception of Act of Valor), Books, etc.
This was my favorite Star Wars book since the moment I read it for the first time. In the Star Wars cannon the films can overwrite any EU materiel, I loved this this book so much that I categorize any thing else that may contradict this novel as non-cannon.
Anyways after This was released i had to listen to it and Marc does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. If you say your a Star Wars fan then read/listen to this! That's an Order!
A Hermit with a pen
This was an incredible story. Zahn extended the Star Wars universe seamlessly and Marc Thompson breathes life into this great work.
The saga continues. The worse part about the Star Wars movies is that they end. Heir to the Empire continues the story keep fans satiated.
Marc Thompson does an incredible job brining all the characters to life. Admiral Thrawn is one of the coolest villains I've ever come across. Thompson also does a great job as Han Solo.
The Storm of Thrawn.
I loved the book but we need the rest of the Trilogy in the Unabridged version so we can continue the whole story
Wow, what an amazing production!
I'm blown away by the quality and the performance that Marc Thompson has done.
Lots of good & interesting parts. But those are to far apart. These books don't really have filler pards, but the story is thin at times.
Ya. Over all its a good to ok series.
When Luke fights the Master. I don't wana say any more & spoil it.
This is a rating on the hole series.

Yes! I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan, and I will at least complete the Thrawn Trilogy. Timothy Zahn has done a wonderful job of crafting a new an interesting experience within the framework of the existing universe, and Marc Thompson is a talented narrator to be sure. The ability to capture so many iconic characters so well--both from an author's and narrator's standpoint is very impressive.
This is part of the reason that I've docked the Story 2 stars. It's already got a lot of "sequelitis." As the book was drawing near the end, I could already feel the cliffhanger. However, rather than a moment of pure suspense and build towards the next installment, I came away from this with a fairly good idea of where things were headed and a sense that the book just arbitrarily ended there.
Lando Calrissian. Not a perfect replication of the cinema original--perhaps a bit more "plantation owner"--but very enjoyable and appropriate.
Absolutely. As some have mentioned in their reviews already, Lucas almost made this trilogy into movies. It will be interesting to see if there is any inspiration from this title when the real Star Wars VII, VIII, and IX are released.
Predictable but enjoyable. If you're a seasoned Star Wars veteran, get it without a second thought.

Nostalgia, expansion, performance
General Thrawn. He was the new addition to the movies of my youth and he definitely had the same wonderful sense of villainy as Vader and the Emperor. A cold calculating villain who's goals of order gave him a fantastic greyness that lent depth to the story.
He was fantastic in his imitations of all the characters. I have seldom seen a more complete and amazing voice acting job and I have listened to many.
I went in with an open mind and I wasn't disappointed. I have heard by many if you are going to read any expanded universe this is the series to do. You also couldnt have ask for a better performance then this one on the narration.
I enjoy "Sherlock Holmes." Classics like "Dracula" and "The Three Muskeeteers,"but predominately Star Wars. Thanks Audible!
No question about it. I got through it a lot faster and the sound effects helped my visualization.
Thrawn is a brilliant tactician and written well as a villain who is not egocentric or pompous, simply that darn good!
Too many to name just one.
THE WHOLE BOOK
if you read other zahn books, its like that. if you are new to star wars books, it immerses you into the book - feels like you are watching a movie
he voices characters well.
it's a long book, dont have that much free time
