Wooh hooh. I have waited forever for an unabridged version for this book (and others in the series). Well it is here and is among the best performances I have ever heard. Marc Thompson is an amazing narrator. He nails the character voices (well the male ones anyway) we all know and love, and brings to life the other characters new to this wonderful expanded universe.I recommend that you all give this book a listen. Especially those who love Star Wars.Phil
The most memorable part for me in the book is where you find out that the Emporer was controlling the troops at Endor.
He just NAILS the characters of Luke, Han, Lando, etc. All of them are amazing!
Read the book any way you can but listening to this is just the best.
Great Unabridged Story!
Marc Thompson's delivery of all of the characterless from the classic to the expanded universe are excellent. He adds a dimension to the story that places you in the moment. It would not be the same without him.
I think the story was good and it was fun to hear about characters that I loved as a kid again. The real strength of this book was the narrator. I enjoy books that play music and have sound effects and this book had it all. Great sound effects and the voices, except for Leia, were spot on. It was easy to get lost in this production. It was very well done.
I took a chance on this book because it was newly produced and it was not abridged. Most of the star wars books I have seen have always been abridged and I have never been interested in abridged books, I don't think an abridged book tells the story that an author wants told. This was a gamble that paid off and I will be finishing the Thrawn trilogy.
This is a great story that led to all the other great Star Wars books in the expanded universe. Timothy Zahn is the master story teller and the full unabridged version is fantastic!!
This is a deep story with your base Star Wars character, Luke, Han and the rest then give us some great new characters that will be the basis of many new adventures in the Star Wars Universe.
Marc showed a great range of voices and really brought the characters to life
I just geeked out tottaly for this book!!
Cant wait for the next two in the series!!!
The narration performance is out of this solar system and worth the credit, and or the purchase. The excellent story line is a bonus!
Definitely! To me this story is just like the original trilogy movies, and up there with the NPR radio dramas. Having a soundtrack with music and effects, and Marc Thompson's voice acting makes this more of a production than a book being read to me.
Having my favorite characters from the Star Wars universe on more adventures. I also enjoyed having new likeable characters introduced into the SW universe (Jade, Karrde, and Winter).
Being able to close my eyes and be pulled into the story. Having different character voices and expressive tones, I feel like I'm listening to actual conversations.
I was ecstatic when I learned Random House Audio decided to create this audiobook. I'm also happy to know that it was everyone's support of this audiobook that convinced them to enlist Marc to record the other too books in this trilogy.
Remember those paint by the numbers things when you were a kid, the ones where the scene was already drawn out for you and you had a little pot of paints to fill in the colors? That's what this novel reminds me of, the characters are pre-established, all we need to plug in a story and you have a novel. No real surprises here, also no real innovation. The story is weak and predictable, the characters we already know and know well so no real development there either. In the end I was just listening to get through it. The sound effects and narration voices are excellent and are the high point of the novel.
The first book in the Expanded Universe and still one of the best! The use of sound effects and music make for more of a feeling of a radio serial drama rather than an audio book. The narrator does a good effort throughout for the different characters, though the dialogue is cheesy at times, but this is Star Wars.
A Star Wars loving man from the South.
Because it's very convenient. One can listen to an audiobook anywhere, but the same is not true for beieng about to read.
I would compare it to Star Wars: Spector of the Past. They were both written by the same author and really give a sense of "Oh yes, if Star Wars really continued, then this is exactly what would have happened".
Han and Lando discovering that Karrde was keeping Luke hostage. Classic.
Yes it made me smile.
This was my first audible experience and I've decided to remain a member because of the surprisingly good performance of this book. Very impressive.
The story is everything you could want from a star wars trilogy. You fall in love with the original characters all over again. The narration is wonderful and truly enhances the experience. The only negative thing about this edition is that there is a large amount of theatrical sound effects. At many points the sound effects overwhelm the narration, when they should be background noise to enhance the narration.
