Great Audio Performance
I Like Han Solo, It brought the feel of the movies back to this episode
I feel he was able to bring all the parts to life.
When Luke was trying to escape from the syndicate that had captured him, well done.
I think this is one of the best Audio books I have ever purchased.
It was one of those stories you can't stop, you are drawn in and have to continue to listen to all the way to the end.
My brother owned a paperback of this book years ago and out of curiousity I read it, and the next one and the one after that. And then I bought copies for my own library. They were too good to put down. They became the first books in my library and still my favorites. Wonderfully fleshed out characters that you really care about. Tight story line, great antagonists/characters. I mean what would you call Karde? He isn't a bad guy or a good guy, an antagonist with his own reasons for doing things. And even Thrawn isn't a "bad guy" he is just opposing the Rebellion/New Republic. A great read.
This was the first Star Wars book I had ever read. I remember seeing it in book stores when I was young. As a teen when I became interested in Star Wars and read the book I was blown away. From this trilogy I became a huge fan of the universe of Star Wars... Timothy Zahn is very gifted. Should have been made into a movie.
I read this book back when I was in high school (mid 90s) and loved it. It was the only way to get some extra Star Wars back then. I remember it being epic. I just read it again at 34 years old and it's not exactly having the same effect. Timothy has cool ideas but his writing (like most sci-fi) is pretty weak and predictable. Still, I've gotta give it 4 stars for just being a fun, nostalgic read.
My biggest beef with the book that I didn't notice before is that Leia's dialogue is pretty lame. She pretty much just sounds like a lame Luke (aka pre-ROTJ Luke). Plus, Han Solo is suddenly really smart in this book. That pretty much came out of nowhere. Han Solo is pretty much my favorite Star Wars character but the guy was never too bright. Still, any Star Wars fan needs to check out this series.
Exceeds Phantom Menace
I can't commend Marc Thompson enough for his narration work on this title. This book begins what is arguably the best series of Star Wars books to date. What are you waiting for? Listen to it now!
I've loved listening to this book. I read it in hard cover many years ago but the terrific performance of Marc Thompson just bought the whole story to life - unlike some who's questionable performance is just a distraction.
With all the added sound effects it was almost like watching a movie (or maybe I just have a great imagination ;D).
The story is set a few years after Return of the Jedi. Leia and Han are married and expecting twins, and Luke is trying to train Leia to be a Jedi, meanwhile Grand Admiral Thrawn is travelling the Galaxy trying to drag the Empire back to it's former greatness and among his other plans, is trying to capture Leia...or Luke....or is he? And could there be another Jedi other than Luke working with Thrawn?
It's an exciting ride, and there are some new characters like Mara Jade who become pivotal to the future of Luke and the Republic.
I cannot say for certain, as I do not have the print version, but the narrator was wonderful.
I liked his impression of the Empire's forces the most, but he did all of the characters to a t. Although I had not imagined Leia speaking in the way that the book writes her, although that could be because of her pregnancy.
I would say so.
Definitely worth a credit, but I do not believe that I could have afforded $33 for a little Star Wars.
I like technology as well as books
Definitely, the way all the characters are introduced and all the conflicts are set in motion in this first book make you thirst for more and want to immediately get the next book.
Thrawn, because he is so smart and the way he sets everything up, like he can never fail. He's always a step ahead of everyone.
I love all of Marc Thompson's performances, from the voices to the emotion he puts into reading the book helps with immersion into the universe.
if you are a Star Wars (old school) fan, you should want to try this one.
very impressive performance, so many voices he can do and very consistent.
