I love this book! I love the narration and the creative ideas to effectively market your content. This book addresses the actual creation process as well. This is a gem filled with practical tips that you can execute right now to improve your business! Thank you to my friend Paul Castsin for recommending this book!
Narration was manic and difficult to keep up with. No real substance to work with.
I give it one star since it’s a book about content. I normally give more just because I acknowledge the efforts of writing a book…
However, this book claims to be about how to create killer blogs etc.
For the first 2 ½ hours, the authors repeat in many different synonyms and forms why you should write content, why content is king, etc.
This for me was a complete waste of time since if I buy a book on how to create good content, I don’t need to be convinced about the benefits of good content. The authors acknowledge that and yet go on to talk on and on and on about why it is important to produce content.
Eventually, when they do start giving some concrete substance, they go against what they preach – they say “get to the point” but they’re obviously unable to do that. Complete chapters could be summarized in one bullet point, and long minutes of listening brings no added value.
I was surprised to see to the book was published in late 2011 – I thought they might be “overselling” the needs to have content as it was less obvious to people back in 2008.
In short – not worth my time.
The book is full of information and isn't written like a textbook. The information is put together well and everything makes sense. They also make a point to ensure the listener feels like a human being throughout, and not a student or a business.
If you were to buy one book to help you learn how to produce quality content, or come up with ideas for content, this should be that book.
The performance was next to terrible. The male speaker spoke too fast and all too often it was obvious he was reading. He mubles a bit at points and drops letters off of words. He's a fast talked which has its pluses & minus's. The female speaker was painful to listen to, though she got better as the book went on. She doesn't have a voice for this.
It's more of a scientific book, but overall the whole thing was very informative and helpful.
Let's face it, after hearing some great performers on audible, it can be a letdown when an author (i.e., professional writer, amateur performer) chooses to read their own stuff no matter how well-intentioned. Here I think they do the material a bit of a disservice by opting to self-deliver --- it just doesn't have the power and clarity of a professional reader, and that means you're going to miss some good material by not being as fully engaged. That being said, it's well-researched an written - you should read it.
I've listened to over a dozen audiobooks now, but this one was the hardest to listen to.
My name is Aleksandra. I live in Skopje, Macedonia, love traveling and meeting new friends.
It is comprehesive, with details on many segments. The language is popular, not academic. It is like user friendly guide for ones who want to learn the basic on social media , with useful hints and tips.
Although I was skeptical at first in the purchase of this book looking at the mixed reviews already provided, but there was still something that told and urged me I should go for this purchase. And I did! And I feel so satisfied about my decision. :-) Although I will comment that narration was quite fast at places, but the overall 'content value ;-)' that I have received from 'Content Rules' makes that quite a small improvement comment but at the same time a constructive improvement feedback, I would say. Special liking goes to re-emphasis of various points already covered at just the right places in the next chapters. That kept the links quite well.
I will surely be implementing a mix from what I have learnt now from this book and I will be more than happy to come back and share my 'Success stories' as I am confident - it will only be that way! :-) Thank you for this book! I much appreciate it and am already referring it to more than 1 of my friends. So, value delivered well to me undoubtedly as expected.
I suggest all businesses listen to this book. It is a fantastic guide to adapting content for the web.
