I liked the mystery-fantasy aspect of the store. I did not like how fluffy, random yet contrived it was.
It was kinda boring and took too long to set up.
not really for me
Could have been a visually-stunning movie, unfortunately it is a book, black and white. The characters seems to be rather mundane, one-dimentiional (mysterious). The plot started off weak (with the same one-dimentiional theme), it slowly built up however all crumbled to nothing which is rather a big disappointment. Certainly not a book for everyone, thought I think this would made a visually magnificent movie.
First off I bought this because Jim Dale narrated and I love how he reads a book, this was not a disappointment, he is wonderful. I really liked this book, kind of a fantasy for adults, it was refreshing to have to go a little deeper. I would have loved to have my teens read this but there was one part that I was concerned about, I dont know might still let them. The good messages outweigh. but all in all great book, kind I didnt want to turn off.
I was glad to have chosen this book - the story synopsis was a bit odd, but I liked Jim Dale's reading in the Harry Potter series and took a chance. The Night Circus jumps back and forth in time, weaving a complex story that keeps you guessing until the end. Strong characters, a fascinating plot, and an excellent performance by Mr. Dale. Highly recommended!
All around Wonderful!
The discriptions of the insides of the tents.
The ending, it didn't let you down.
I wouldn't want to listen to it all in one sitting because I wanted it to last and the imagery to last.
The narrator, Jim Dale of Harry Potter, made this listen perfect. His reading made the book that much more magical.
It took me a little while to catch on to the time shifts - pay attention to those. Once the rhythm and cadence of the story catches you, it's easy to see the characters in their world. I listen to very few books a second time, and would seriously consider relistening to Night Circus.
One of the top ten audiobooks I have purchased/heard.
The depicton of the characters brings them straight into my head.
I love the reader's accents. It makes them more real to me.
I did not want it to end, but it ended in a way that I could accept.
A wonderful story performed beautifully. I have recommended it to my mother and all my reader friends.
This book has the unusual gift of a well crafted story. It does not need the tricks of violence or literary porn to prop up a weak plot. The characters are well defined and the plot is beautifully woven. She describes these marvelous rooms in such a way that you can really imagine them coming to life. I would be very surprised if it does not make it to the big screen some day using Computer Graphics to create the scenes developed in the imagination of a talented author.
I typically don't write reviews but this was probably one the best books I've ever listened to, it was magical. I purchased it because of the narrator and he was great (as always). The circus background and love story threaded throughout the magic added to the amazingly described scenes made me feel like I was transported.
Similar to Harry Potter series... but with a more adult feel. It also seemed to have a timeline like Water for Elephants.
I think all of his performances are great.
YES! I already have several times! I love this story- it's a fantastic tale of magic for adults! The descriptions of the Circus, the characters, etc. are amazing- they paint such a magnificent picture for you while still leaving room for your imagination to soar! And Jim Dale is an amazing narrator- he really keeps you engaged in the story. Amazing story + amazing narrator = incredible!
Tough question, because they were all so different and interesting in their own ways! Right now, I'd narrow it down to Bailey. He's an ordinary boy who can believe the extraordinary. He's so genuine- he really exemplifies the pure mind of a child- open to an infinite amount of possibilities and wonders.
Again- really tough question, because there are so many incredible scenes! The character's auditions, various exhibitions of talents, the personal relationships or interactions between various characters...The best I can narrow it down to is this: any scene describing the Circus. It really is magical!
Yes! Normally I listen to audio books while getting ready for the day, or doing menial tasks. With this book, I'd catch myself just sitting, listening, waiting to hear what's next- unable to focus on anything but the story, even while carrying out the simplest of tasks!
LOVE this book!! I highly recommend it!!
