A delightful listen! Great twists and turns. A truly magical story. It was fun not knowing all the details and written in a way that was so entertaining not knowing did not bother you.
I am currently in the second run through of this audiobook. I thought I must have missed something the first time, but right now I don't even think I can finish this. It is, in a word, "blah". I bought the book because 1) Jim Dale is, of course, Jim Dale -- and that is magical in and of itself. 2) There was all this grand hype associated with the book and positive this and that, and I figured, okay, well, gotta get it! 3)The actual premise was tantalizing.
Truth is, none of it panned out! I think there is a conspiracy going on, something like payola, to have so many critics give bad books such great ratings. The killer for me is that the book is out there in a free downloadable PDF. This means that the book sucks, if, after one year, it's farmed out like that. So...I got bit again. But I got the book on sale.
If you want to know the plot of this book, look on Wikipedia. Trouble is, they couldn't figure it out, either. I am licking my wounds on this one.
Jim Dale is brilliant, and I could not believe some of the depth this story contained. Engaging of a senses and cultivated every essence of a persons imagination. Lovely.
Having read this before I was uncertain how it might be to listen to it. However the reading was superb and it was a joy to revisit The Night Circus this way.
No - because once was enough . This book was so good until the end. I felt like it just ended and I missed something. I rewound the last 6 chapters to see if I missed one. It was incredible until the end.
First one to listen to by Erin.
The reader is excellent. I would listen to more of him with joy.
I liked all of the characters - each one was unique and interesting.
I wish the author would go back and redo the end. This would be a great movie!
I really wasn't sure if I would like this book, but it was really quite good. The author's descriptions of the many dream-like scenes in this book told through Jim Dale's wonderful narration are so lifelike, it is almost as if you are there in the circus yourself.
The story itself can be slightly disorienting, as it jumps back and forth through time. I would recommend not leaving too much time in between listening sessions to avoid getting lost in the several timelines going on at once, but they all fit together nicely in the end.
I don't know what the reviewers that say "nothing happens" mean, because I certainly feel like plenty of interesting events take place in the latter half of the story.
Overall, this was a wonderful experience!
I am a published writer and love to read. Mother, grandmother, and love being single again! I love life and God above.
This is a Great story. It is beautifully read.
I would read this again and recommend it to a friend.
This book was enchanting to say the least and Jim Dale did an excellent job on bringing life to the characters. The story was definitely different than any other story I've read or listened to before and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
