Don't pass this up. I almost didn't buy it, but I'm so glad that I did. I'm not a "geekout" kind of person, and this is not that kind of novel (although knowing the references is fun). Think Willy Wonka mashed up with The Matrix. Really great.
I loved the story. It definitely draws you in and creates a vivid picture of what's happening. I'll probably listen and or read a few more times, but, I'm leaning on the side of reading it myself. At times, I really didn't enjoy listening to Will Wheaton reading.
The premise of this book sounded way too wacky for me. I have no interest at all in 80s pop culture, and no appreciation for any kind of video games. But the plot and characters just sucked me in, I dreamt about alternate plot twists for three nights straight while listening to this! Really surprised at how much I got into it. Definitely for you if you like characters you can root for! I think the excellent narration helped (although I would suggest bumping the speed up to 1.25!), he had me literally laughing out loud with his accents and sound effects.
Aside from a few blunders in regards to one of the main characters' arc, Ready Player One is nevertheless an exciting story set in a shockingly realistic world we might see ourselves very soon.
No. I made it all the way through but did not like very.
I guess this book is maybe more for gamers. It just didn't grab me. You'd have to be a big fan of the 80's pop culture-- I don't get how it got so many favorable reviews. I have to say Wil Wheaton did an excellent job.
A true tip of the hat to geeks and gamers everywhere. jam packed with enough lore, trivia and cameos to appeal to any geeky guilty pleasure. the writing is great and the narrator conveys a true love for the work!
