I spend 90+ minutes a day in my car, Audible makes it enjoyable regardless of what's happening in traffic. My taste varies from endurance fitness to economics and from to combat stories and romance novels.
Alright, I'll admit it, I'm hooked on the whole series, but this one was definitely the best so far for me. Great passion, a few interesting complications in the story-line, and characters I really enjoyed learning about.
I really enjoy the twists and turns of the power dynamics in this series. It fascinates me and always has me looking for deeper insights while mostly enjoying the fluff, too.
I'll admit, book 3 was the most challenging for me, but this more than made up for it with the passion starting off hot and heavy followed by so many interpersonal hurdles to overcome.
This one's a keeper. Sexy, smart, funny and with an ending that managed to resolve most of the tension without making me feel like the author was either reaching or oversimplifying. She stays true to the rules of the world she's created while making room for new discoveries and change that will keep me coming back for more. I wasn't completely sold on this series, even though I loved the first and third books, but this one has gotten me truly hooked.
She does a great job clearly differentiating the characters' voices without overdramatizing them.
It was a feel-good read, with enough plot beyond the main couple's romance that I didn't get bored.
Say something about yourself!
I'm kind of amazed with each book in this series. I have to make myself stop listening at some points and go to bed or go to work. I also have to make myself listen to other things in my library, so I only buy one of these at a time. I just can't say enough positive stuff about Nalini Singh's writing, her story and her world. The chemistry between her characters is just all but perfect. It's so real that it's easy to get caught up and just keep listening.
I'm still a bit annoyed by the overuse of 'however'. I really start to notice it by the last 10 chapters, but by them I'm so engrossed that I just shake my head and keep goingg.
Action... Fantasy.. Romance
I enjoyed all of the characters
I've enjoyed the book as a whole
It's a great edition to the series
Really good series so far
Great series!!!! This is my favorite series. Each book builds on the overall world while keeping you interested in the individual romances. A few of the book were about secondary characters that I didn’t care about at the beginning and absolutely loved by the end. This review applies to the first 9 books in the series.
Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this one, because Mercy wasn't one of my favorite characters in the begining of the series. It is defiently one of the better ones in the series.
This series is just enough different than everything else I read that it never gets old. It can be a touch formulaic but what the heck the characters are always interesting and she doesn't forget other characters we've met in previous books. At first I thought I might not like the narrator but that didn't turn out to be true at all. She did a very good job. I'm sure I'll listen to the rest of these.
Love to ride (motorcycle), be outside, travel, cook for friends, read, drink coffee.
Yup. I'm hooked on Psy. The series is a wonderful diversion from daily life.
I've learned the outline of the books The set up to the love match. dramatic event/problem to solve, roadblocks overcome (in both love match and problem solving), dramatic sidestep near the end.... surprise twist and resolution of problem, followed by penultimate love match.
Predictable, but always a fun trip.
Mercy and Riley's story is sexier and more romantic than any other couple.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! The book is richer and more complex than any other. It's more than just Mercy and Riley's story. The secondary story lines will catch your interest! They set up some pretty interesting dynamics for other characters...
Don't miss this one. It's Singh's finest work in either series, so far.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a very good book. Mercy and Riley made a good couple, regardless of the challenges they had to get past in order to be together.
Mercy is a leopard changeling (shifter) and a Dark River Leopard pack sentinel (sentinels are the warriors that rank immediately below the Alpha and are blood bonded to him). She's worked hard to reach her current rank and takes her responsibility to her pack seriously. Mercy is a very dominant female (pretty much a given considering her rank in the pack) but this is an issue for her because all the males in the pack that were more dominant are mated and Mercy doesn't like less dominant males. Since changelings need touch, especially sexual touch, to sooth their beast and keep their emotions steady, Mercy's lack of options for a partner is problematic.
Riley is a wolf changeling that is a Snow Dancer Wolf pack lieutenant (roughly the same position Mercy holds in her pack just a different name). Riley had to raise his sister and little brother and grew up with a load of responsibility. Because of this he tends to be rather serious and focuses on his responsibilities. He became even more serious when his sister was kidnapped and brutalized and it hasn't gone away even after she was saved.
Riley isn't currently in a relationship and he figures that his future mate will be a submissive, maternal type (thoughts that are fueled by a tragedy in his past). Unfortunately for Riley, he can't get Mercy out of his mind and he decides he needs to get Mercy out of his system. Mercy has an attraction to Riley but has no interest in a wolf and beside...Riley tends to be a pain in Mercy's butt and she doesn't want to deal with him. That doesn't stop the heat from ratcheting up when they encounter each other in the woods when Mercy is dying for touch. Their attraction quickly explodes and they have sex. Mercy insists that it's a one time thing but Riley isn't willing to let things lie. When they end up getting pulled in to an investigation regarding a kidnapped shifter together it becomes impossible for Mercy to avoid Riley or their attraction.
Mercy and Riley begin working on their investigation, which reveals a plot by the Human alliance. They start taking the needed steps to safeguard their people and figure out the plot and the reasons behind it. In the mean time, Riley does end up getting Mercy to give in to him again and starts feeling very progressive. Mercy isn't sure what to think, she's strongly attracted to Riley and part of her wants him but then he's a wolf and they're in 2 different packs...where would they end up if they did mate? Also she's worried because Riley revealed his thoughts on having a submissive, maternal type as his mate and that's not Mercy and will never be her. Mercy has to figure out if she's still willing to be with him knowing that they may not end up mating. There's some difficulties as they try to figure out how they fit together and how to work together. Riley doesn't make things easy as his urge is to protect and when he gives in and attempts to protect Mercy she just about flays him alive. Riley does recover from his bout of relationship stupidity and manages to get Mercy's forgiveness. Things don't go easy for them but I liked the chemistry between Mercy and Riley. Mercy brought out Riley's less serious side and it's evident that they're good for each other. I loved seeing them work things out and how things turned out for them in the end. I was happily satisfied with the way things turned out and their HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story. Riley and Mercy made a cool couple and an interesting story. The action plot wasn't a major part of the story but it added some good content and continued the series storyline in an interesting fashion. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :)
