I hear voices. But maybe that's because there's always an Audible book in my ear.
There are very few authors who make me laugh out loud but one I can count on to do that is Carl Hiaasen. There were a few times in this book where I could have sworn it was Hiassen's writing - and that's high praise from me. I think he's brilliant with what I call "The Kooky Native" genre. Both Rosenfelt and Hiaasen can write about everyday events in a really humorous way. A little twisted, yes. But funny.
This book isn't going to make you smarter or richer. What it will do is make time fly by on a long drive and give you something to chuckle about. It's cleverly done and really well narrated.
There's great dog stuff that's woven through without dominating the storyline. (The mastiff stuff is hysterical.) There are those Hiaasen-like characters who form the underbelly of real life Patterson, New Jersey. The whole thing is quirky good fun. I'm so glad to have discovered this author. It will be my go-to the next time I need to clean the garage.
I'm a mom. I have drama in my life. I don't want books with the F-bomb, nor graphic violence. I read for fun and to bring my family together. I read for reducing stress levels. We have never had a television in our home and our children are now mid twenties to 19. We listen together and look for belly-wrenching laughter. So what is it like to live without a TV? Awesomely educational and inspirational. Each new book is a marvel.
We just keep laughing at the thoughts of Andy Carpenter. Who is so true to themselves they admit they don't want another client? Andy. This humor filled book will have you wishing Andy were at least an uncle in your family because the drama AND humor would have the rest of the family chocking on their cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving dinner.
We highly recommend. If you can, don't listen alone. These laugh-out-loud moments are best shared.
If you love this series like I do, you know what you are going to get. Laughs! Great characters. A superb narration. And plenty of drama that never feels formulaic.
If you aren't familiar with this series, then what are you waiting for. Click on David Rosenfelt. Start from the beginning and ENJOY! This is one of the only series with such short entries (in terms of time) that I would say are worth the credit and more. Simply delightful!
Don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Trip's cool though. Use Audible to make gym-training sane... And rip my imagination.
I've listened to every one of David Rosenfelt's tales of wise-cracking lawyer Andy Carpenter. His ensemble cast have become friends. His plotting's usually fun AND intriguing. This time though, the intriguing part was a bit, um, flea-bitten. Instead of his usual build... the ending's a tad frenetic... like the last two minutes of an NBA game with an inexplicable court room ending. Well, ok... explained but only with a LOT of doggedness on the part of the reader. I'm hoping that Rosenfelt's not running out of steam, or has perhaps found that his doggie plotting may have skipped its leash or become somewhat lost.
Maybe next time Tara and her fiends may become a LOT more atmosphere and considerably less plot drivers? Once again... I'd recommend as a reader that you begin this series at the start and maybe... maybe... wait for Andy Carpenter's next capade and skip over One Dog Night which may have come very close to going to the dogs.
BTW... we know so much about Andy and his relationship with his Dad. Did he have a Mom? Does he have a Mom? Is there meat on that bone?
Love David Rosenfelt. Grover Gardner is the ONLY voice for these books! Only wish there were more. Doesn't really matter which one you read as they are all great! Just sit back and be prepared to laugh and enjoy!
I wish all narrators could do what Grover Gardner does - he reads the book. He doesn't indulge in idiotic accents or voices, he just reads the book - and he does it well. Since David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter novels are just darned good, that's all we need. This is fun, interesting, and well plotted. Even my non-mystery lover husband listens to Rosenfelt's books and thoroughly enjoys them. I want all of them on on Audible, and unabridged. I will listen and listen again and again - at some point it's a pleasure to listen to a good story with a good reader and "who done it" just plain doesn't matter.
another gem!! I love David Rosenfelt and Grover Gardner. The story is fun the reading rocks and we got to know more about Marcus. What fun was THAT!!!! I love Marcus. I'd put more in the review but you'll have to listen to find out.
Very good book!! I will listen to all of Andy Carpenter books!!! The best narrator for these books.. He is Andy!!!
