Contrary to what my headline states, I did actually enjoy this. It's a paranormal romance and as such, it follows the formula all too well. Unless this is your first foray into the land of PnR, you know basic storyline.
"Loner/surly supernatural creature meets plain jane and they fall madly in love. Snarky humor, angst, bad guys to defeat, personal issues to overcome, and of course a happily ever after (or at least a happily for now)."
However, that doesn't mean that it is a bad formula. It's all in the execution, not the skeleton. Damsel (mostly) wasn't in distress and she does some rescuing of her own. The good guy vampires are unbelievably hot alpha-males but all organic and eco-conscious. That's not a bad thing for me but, I'm a bit of a hippie so its all in your perception. I did like our heroine although she's not in my top ten favorites or anything.
It was good enough though that I bought the second and the third in the series although not so good that I've read them yet.
I enjoyed this story from start to finish. I loved the characters! I mean who doesn’t love a tortured hero???? In my opinion the humor mixed with the drama was just the right touch. I gave this book 5 stars overall!
Everthing about it. I thought she did an excellent job!
When Roland healed Sarah's head injury and took her pain on himself.
Up at the top I enjoy the genre and like the twist and turns.
But of course SARAH! Why ask Why? She is level headed, brave, smart and prone to violent tendencies - "I like her...."
No I haven't until now - but I will be looking for her NAME now. I love how she gives life to each character and her take on the quips AWESOME!
laughed out loud - deep thoughts - hot romance - and building of other characters make you antsy for the next book highlighting them.
I'm a fantasy book hoarder!! :-) I am a mother of two small beautful childeren and my books are my way of getting away for a little break!!!
It was very sexy and funny! Very sweet!!
When they give in and just finely get down to it!! Then he got to keep her. So sweet!
She was great!
Yea when I thought he was going to lose her. And of corse very time they made love!! Who would be moved by that!! Lol
I would recommend this book to anyone of my friends!!
It is very similar to the Black Dagger Brother Hood but different. The narrator is fantastic and the story line is well written.
She is great at putting feeling into the characters with out becoming over the top.
The whole storyline caught me when I read the book and couldn't wait to hear it in audio. It was narrated very well. Kirsten Potter's male voices did not take away from the story at all like some female narrators do.. I look forward to hearing the other books in the series if she continues to narrate.
Darkness Dawns is similar to the books written by Karen Marie Moning, Donna Grant and Jacquelyn Frank. Those are a few of my favorite authors whose work I read and listen to.
She made the characters sound just as I thought they would.
I loved the storyline and I laughed and smiled throughout the book.
Can't wait to listen to the other books in the series when they become available.
Favorite Genres: Urban/Preternatural Fantasy, Science Fiction, Knitting Favorite Story Components: character development, under-dog success stories
The concept was okay, the writing was professional quality, the reading wasn't bad, and I'm not complaining about the time spent listening to it, but this didn't stand out well enough for me to recommend it.
Though some of the storyline is a bit out there for me I'll go further with the series. The narrator did an excellent job of speeding my heart rate, making me smile, grit my teeth and empathize with the characters.
I definately want to know what's going on with the rest of the characters!
