A surprisingly well written book that manages to be a love story without all the over used words and phrases that other books in this genre use. Well except for the required *mine* ;) A hunky demanding dragon and a smart mouth sassy heroine. Don't pass up this one!
I am enraptured by this series after this book! I adore mythology & paranormal series but it's really hard to get into a series, even with great stories, when 6 book sex build ups end in "then they woke up in each other's arms" crap. This series is not only full of amazing characters you will love to love & hate, action & storyline unparalleled, and a really nice Pantheon/Paranormal hierarchy set up with solid beginnings in these delightful book!!! As always I spend so much money on audio books because I work all the time & it's the only reading I get the narration is perfect I am so pleased & excited with this new series! Now starting on storms heart.
It took me a while to decide if I liked the premise behind the book, the descriptive nature of it and if I was put off by the narrator. Here is what I learned. I loved the descriptive nature of the book, I hadn't ready anything that well constructed in a very long time. The web that Thea wrote was amazing, it was well thought out and it was so much fun. It was a surprise to say the least. I love Sophie Eastlake as a narrator and am captivated by the story. The characters are charismatic and you love the ones you are supposed to and hate the ones that are truly worth hating, the story twists and turns and is so much fun to follow. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good book with real feel to it, because I can totally picture it all as it takes place; like a fly on the wall.
Married, middle-age, owner of 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a messy house.
I have listened to this story several times. I always enjoy it, and it is complex enough to keep me engaged even though I remember how it ends. The beginnings of other stories are in this story, but not in such a way to be cliffhangers. It just provides continuity, and helps hold the series together.
I really enjoy the storyline and all of the characters. The narrator does an excellent job, portraying surprise, snark, worry, and passion all with equal ability. Especially the snark. LOL
The most interesting part of the story is the supernatural realm that the author invites us into. It is filled with all sorts of magical/supernatural beings, and because of this, the reader is able to dive into the world of the elder races and become a part of it. Unfortunately, the story of Pia and Dragos lacked depth. Everything in their relationship moved so fast, it was difficult to see how their relationship/feelings developed. I felt that they spent lots of time apart throughout the whole story, yet still managed to form a "strong bond."
Sophie did a great job with the performance, the characters' voices were all distinguishable.
Over all, the performance was great, the characters on their own were very interesting and strong, however pieced together the protagonist ( Pia and Dragos) did not mesh well.
I didn't like the narrator much. At certain times and in the same sentence her voice went from normal to sounding as if she had a sinus infection.
