I truly enjoyed this book. The narrator brought it to life for me. I read reviews on other books about how the narrator distracted from their stories. This book is quite the opposite. I can not imagine this book without hearing the narrator.
The story was ok and in some places predictable and in others it felt like it dragged. Don't get me wrong, it was a good story with great characters but it suffers from what most other books suffer from, how to give enough backstory while keeping you interested. This one had parts that felt slow to me.
The narrator made this book great. I am looking for other books narrated by Scott Brick!
I find that, as my mind wanders, I often need to re-listen to parts of audiobooks to get what's happening. But this story kept me interested and involved. It's an easy listen. Not the most original story or with the most compelling characters, but decent enough.
Actually, I think with this book I would. Being able to hear Shep speak was probably better than what he'd have sounded like in my head if I'd read the book.
I think every second of it was memorable. It is a very fast-paced book and if I'd have had the time, I would have listened to it all at once. It, for me, was one of those you just don't want to put down.
It took me just a few minutes to get used to his portrayal of the female character(s). (I'm not a fan of men trying to sound like females. Most of the time it just doesn't work, in my opinion.) But after I got used to him, I enjoyed everything about his performance.
How much and what all Mike did to protect his little girl and how patient he was with her.
Get this book! I don't think you'll be disappointed. I've already recommended it to a lot of my friends, and can't wait to pick out my next Hurwitz book!
Scott Brick is a wonderful narrator, but even his skills couldn't entice me to finish this book. I thought it was boring, predictable writing, it didn't capture my interest in the slightest.
I'm glad that other people seem to be enjoying it. It's just not at all my cup of tea.
Twists and turns
he helps the characters come to life.
In the beginning when a child was abandoned in a playground by his father.
some parts of this book are brutal
Realistic treatment of a young daughter's murder and its effect on the parents and friends. Suspense great. It bothered me when Rafferty gets into trouble, but the story still kept me glued to the end. Scott Brick is a little dramatic for my taste.
I would listen again because I feel I might have missed the meaning of a chapter. I felt something was missing at one point and missed the connection.
The patience, resolve and understanding of the wife.
When Michael's friend 'Chet' arrived hours early with only the message 'I need you.' His loyality and friendship is so unique and very special.
Too long - but if I could I would.
Great story line. Keep you thinking and in suspense until the end.
I would totally recommend this book to anyone! I'm not a huge fan of mysterys, or thrillers but this changed me completely.
I love the backstory of all the characters, I love that it's different & not like every other book out there. I honestly had no idea where the story was headed & I LOVED that about it.
Sometimes when certain things were happening I was either yelling out loud in my car or laughing like a maniac! I would root the main character on!
OMG, I adore Shep. He made me laugh out loud. I have the biggest crush on him & couldn't wait for all the scenes he was in.
I LOVE the end where the main character goes at it all alone. He has people helping him alone the way but when it matters most he goes at it alone. LOVE!
The part that really moved me was when he thought his wife died. I totally felt his pain & was crying. When he got gas & said...."last time I got gas, I was married..." I think of that all the time how in an instant your whole life changes.
I'm usually reading romantic books like Danielle Steel. I am SO glad I chose this book & I immediatly couldn't wait to go get other books by this author. I've never felt compelled to write a review before until now..
Lots of action, I was never sure what would happen next
Shep, he was always so blunt and to the point.
Performance was ok, would have liked more distinction in voice for different characters.
Some of Shep's comments made me laugh.
Over all was a good read. I would buy books by this author again.
The first 2/3 of this book had me listening every spare moment I could find. During last third, while the suspense remained, the plot became a little absurd. I came away feeling a little let-down by the conclusion. Overall, however, I enjoyed the listen and would recommend the book.
