Truly astounding, I didn’t know what was coming next; on the edge of my seat!!! Could not put it down, but was very afraid for what was coming next. I truly was enveloped in this story line. This is a must read. Outside of what I normally read. I loved the suspense!
Harlan Coben is one of my favorite authors, but may soon be taken over by Gregg Hurwitz. Narrator Scott Brick does a few Coben novels and I've always found him to be excellent - in my option, the best in the business. I did a search for Scott Brick and came across Gregg Hurwitz. You're Next was the first book to try and I'm glad I did. Excellent story with believable main characters that you get emotionally attached to and really bad guys hunting them down - it reads like a movie (fast paced and gripping). I may go through all of Hurwitz's collection now, downloading Survivor next (again by Scott Brick so I don't think I'll be disappointed).
Writing is actually really good and the deliverance of the narrator matches in quality. Give this one a go. You might be surprised as well.
Extremely "taut" and a complete thrill ride!
Great character voices...but Shep stands alone!
I find new authors all the time by following what Scott Brick reads! There is nobody better....no matter who the author is.... or what the story is about.
Best so far!
This book sucked me in slowly, but once it had me, it didn't let go! This book was well plotted, well written, and engaging as heck! Edge of your seat excitement and suspense.
A do not miss book. Can not recommend this one enough.
I'm an avid reader who now listens to books on tape. I'm a bit late to the game but enjoying the hands free reading.
Yes, I'll listen to it again in 6 months.
Once Mike's old life comes back to grab him. Really, every part of the story was excellent.
Good serious tone.
This is the best book I've listened to so far as a member for only four months.
I did not like all the liberal politics in the story! If I wanted to read a book on politics I would have read one!
Retired CFO, Army wife, Mom of five, Grandma of six, two sons who served in combat, love to read books that reflect my values and faith, love mysteries, historical, military stories, and books that don't waste my time . . . if it doesn't have an ending that was worth the wait, I'm not a happy camper.
Excellent story, the turns and twists are incredible, kept me up half the night listening . . . finished in two days . . . won't disappoint . . .
Painful in a good way. I had a relationship with these characters and now I miss them.
Shep. His loyalty.
Can't wait to read another of Gregg Hurwitz's novels.
I am being intentionally vague because I hate placing a spoiler in a review.
I had some issues with this story. It felt unfinished to me, and some of the plot mechanisms used were unnecessary or ill suited to their intended purpose. There are characters that go under developed but we expect them to play a big role in the story, and the author does little to reconcile that.
The story moves along like a slow burning match you held too long and eventually burns you, but only because you forgot you were holding it.
Just know it is a slightly above mediocre effort that is not terrible, but not great.
