I could not believe what was happening to this nice family. And there was no authority that could be trusted to help. The chance of any kind of happy ending was no where in sight. I had to keep listening through the night to find out who's doing this and why.
I love Scott Brick and have chosen many books because he is the narrator.
It's a good story that keeps the reader engaged most of the time. A little fluff here and there but mostly very engaging. I really am a fan of Scott Brick the narrator but he mispronounces the name of the indian tribe which is part of the story. Given the fact it's a significant part of the story, I would have thought he would have checked on the proper pronounciation ..Miwoks are pronounced Me wok not MY wok
I cannot believe how incredibly well written this book was and the unbelievable narration of Scott Brick who, as far as I'm concerned, could read the dictionary and I would be happy to listen all the day long. This is an amazing book, with such a plausible story line and chapter after chapter of mind-numbing suspense and believable problem solving. The character of "Shep" cannot be appreciated in the written word, Brick's narration was Brilliant! This is by far one of the best books I've ever "read." I was listening late into the night and couldn't wait to get back to it. This is my first Gregg Hurwitz. I'm hoping the rest are just as good.
Intense, riveting and suspensful.
The story kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next detail, I was so gripped that I had to listen to the entire story in one day.
Scott Brick's performance was excellent, especially his peformance of partically deaf friend of Mike Wingate.
This book will grab you and have you cheering for the underdogs in the story.
I'm an avid audible book listener. I am a huge fan of supernatural books and like stuff that is scary but well written. I'm from Denver Colorado and I have three sons.
Loved the original story and really enjoyed the characters. Another good book for my commuting. This story was entertaining and got you into the story right away which is good for my short attention span. The narration was good as well.
Exciting but violent.
Shep was the realest of the characters. I love when characters who make a lot of bad decisions are written so well that you care about them anyway. Shep was well-written in this way, and exceptionally voiced.
Shep was voiced perfectly.
Not at first. The plot jumps around a bit at the beginning, and while there's a lot of action, I found it difficult to care for the characters at first. But there came a point for me - about hour 3, I'd say - where I found every possible opportunity to listen to this book. At one point, I was sitting on an airplane and shrieked,
If you are a fan of Scott Brick, you will likely love the narration. If you're not a fan of narrators who like to ratchet up the suspense, you might find it overwrought. If you are concerned about the level of violence, I find it on par with David Baldacci's thrillers and later Myron Bolitar mysteries by Harlan Coben. Not far off from the co-written James Patterson books, either. If those are at the top of your threshold, you may consider this too graphic.
People who love to read about tourture (spelling??) and violence should love this.
No way! I have read this genre for years and this one really upset me. I had to turn to the last hour to find out what happened in the story. I apparently did not miss much and spared myself hearing all that violence!
He was perfect. I gave him a
I was angry about the over-the-top violence that was really not necessary. Maybe men will like this book. It started as a good story but got out of control.
Good story line and a great mystery. There is an explanation for everything that occurs...eventually. Scott Brick as narrator is exceptional as always. His interpretations causes the listener to feel the stress, emotional pain of the characters. The daughter is annoying at times. When did precocious became a synonym for spoiled?
This book kept me engaged througout. I hated to stop listening and couldn't wait to get back to it. Also, I love listening to Scott Brick.
