another fun filled book. I Love the new characters and back stories. can't wait to read the next.
As I said of the first book. If you like zombie apocalypse stories OR superhero stories, even if you can only tolerate the other, you'll love these books. This is good fun and absolutely excellent reading. The team of readers brings both the characters and the action vividly to life. No fancy descriptions to offer, just confidence you'll enjoy these books.
I accidentally missed the first book of this series, but that didn't stop me from totally getting this second installment nor enjoying it thoroughly.
At first I thought it was too comic book-ish with cardboard characters, but the writing definitely won me over. I loved the blend of real and fantasy and especially enjoyed all the Los Angeles locations.
Peter Clines is certainly well-versed in his military, weaponry and especially anatomy with lots and lots of detailed descriptions of blood, guts and exploding heads. But then, that's all part of the zombie world.
I remain undecided about multiple voices, especially with the voice of one character and then and different voice for the "he said, she said". But I got used to it.
Loved all the popular cultural references creating a wonderful reality.
A bit of an abrupt ending despite it being a series.
But overall, very enjoyable.
great overall book, enjoyed the multiple narrators. I find it much easier listening to a man doing a man voice and a woman doing a womans. You have to give things time to develop for a good understanding of what's going on. once your into it you're hooked.
if you have already listen to the first book and was hoping the fighting was going to continue you will be extremely satisfied. not to much fluff of a back story to listen to just strap in and get ready to hear superheroes trying to keep humans safe in the mount..
I enjoy spy, military, psychological, technical and fiction based in reality and science. I really value intimate, thorough writing.
Right under the first one. Ex Heroes. I don't think the series will ever top that. Super close though.
Obviously Ex Heroes. Same series. EXCELLENT establishment of this world while being its own amazing story.
They were all perfect. They got the tone exactly right. I like that it was a team of people instead of one guy. The main narrator was great though.
The part where it all came together. All the flash backs, tension and mystery. They all just hit you all at once. I actually cursed out loud.
I was really worried. The first book felt so complete and perfect as it was. I regretted it right up to when the story kicked off. This enhanced the story because i was apprehensive and then TOTALLY caught off guard. Awesome writing.
This book had no real rough parts in its story. it had me wishing for more and more every moment. It started off strong enough and ended well enough. I'll admit that the ending was a bit lacking because of how Peter Cline decided to end this book, but that's because he may wanted to use certain characters in later instalments. As long as he can do things well enough I'll be OK with it (obviously I haven't read the 3rd book).
Favorite moments: Daniel handling events out of the suit, St. George "negotiating" with Cpt. Freedom to focus on the larger picture, every moment with Barry (Zapp), and most every time Stealth was being her Batman-like self. Even though I like where they went with Captain Freedom I still think it was rather predictable.
The narration was 10 times better. the two more voices was well worth it and elevated my issues with the first book where it was sometimes hard to tell the difference between some characters. Not only the extra voices, but the narrations got better to. looking forward to book 3!
this is probably the best written best series I've ever read this could go up there with Marvel and DC and probably take over this is a great sequel and I've definitely been spreading the word
cant wait to get the next books
