Disciple of the written word and Audible fanatic. I am an Urban and Epic Fantasy Fan. I also enjoy some Paranormal Romance.
This was spliced out of the last book you find yourself being bounced around to things that happened in the beginning of A Feast for Crows waaaaayyyyy frustrating ......
That said. I am dying you can't leave me hanging!!!!
This book answers so many questions and asks so many more! I love it and hate it. There are to many ends and beginnings "off stage" and I feel disarranged in the story now. The story is still George RR Martin though meaning still very good.
Up to this point, I have enjoyed the series. I even liked John Lee as narrator. I figured that if I listened to
I would not want a different narrator. I would just like Roy to listen to the books he narrated.
Every book in this series has been wildly entertaining. The narrator is terrific and brings each character to life. This is one series I will listen to and read more than once. It is a delicious escape.
I don't know if the book is any good because I was only able to listen to about 30 minutes of this horrid narration. Truly, the worst, most grating narration I have ever heard.
The story take place in mid evil times in a realm of fantasy complete with dragons, skin changers, magic, knights, kings etc, that's the best part, the story is engaging but 90% of the characters are sex/power driven psychopaths and every time you find that rare character who displays some virtue the writer kill them off, then the rest of the story is the filled with psychopathic rulers killing off psychopathic rulers. 98% of the men and women in the story are crude self serving and cruel, with no redeeming values, no friendships, and loyalty that can be bought and sold, along with their children.
give balance to the story, insert more likable characters in the story, and give some complexity to the evil characters, so far all the characters all seem to be driven by only two things Sex and Power acquisition. when the men and women are not fighting their Raping torturing, having sex or talking about sex or sexual organs!
I would not listen to this again as I almost never listen to any audiobook more than once.
Mr. Dotrice did his best but I believe that he has lost the ability to vary his voice for most of the characters.
I am extremely disappointed with the direction the saga is heading. With all of the characters that I had an emotion investment in dead by the end of the book I am left feeling cheated.
Mr. Martin has managed to remove all hope from this series. He has gone on a bloody rampage slicing the core characters from the story.
I probably wouldn't read it again, as I remember all the key points. Before the next books comes out, I'll read up on all the characters on wikipedia and go from there.
I absolutely loved Roy Dotrice's impression/voicing of Victarion Greyjoy.
Where Drogon comes out of nowhere and Dyneries rides him away.
Also where The Dornish men are trying to steal the Dragons in the pit, but it goes wrong.
I laughed in loads of sections of this book. I'm quiet partial to the Dornishman jokes.
I have read some rather scathing comments about Mr. Dotrice reading of this book, compared to the previous books. I for one have listened to all 5 one right after the other, and have found the story is so well written and the story telling so well done, that minor deviations in characters, just didn't matter. Enjoy the experience! It's a fun ride.
Should have made this a trilogy. Great writing but I'm ready to know how it ends!!! Not sure what it is about Martin's storytelling - maybe it's that each book feels like a great song played partway through. Where's the pleasure from hearing that lingering last note?
no, too long
n, i read faster
wish i could access chapters names to find my plkace when falling asleep.
