I enjoyed this book but was also quite frustrated by the multiple narrations and author styles.
I have enjoyed other compilation novels but this one was just too much in one place. Perhaps if there was only one narrator it would have been better.
I would have rather read this book instead of using the audio.
I selected this book because I love Diana Gabaldon and was hoping to find another author that I might enjoy as much as her, but sadly I can???t say I???ll been searching out any of the other authors works.
I would have thought that with 26 writers it would be riveting and exiting. It was obvious and disappointing. The Narration was fine, but the story was lacking. I jsut expected so much more.
The story was very good. I enjoyed the different narrators, I thought that was important to how the book was written. Very good listen.
As hard as I am trying, I just can't seem to get into this one. I have listened to 2-3 books per month since 2006. Can not put my finger on it, but perhaps it is all of the different narrators, or maybe the characters and plot suffer rather than benefit from the multiple authors. It leaves me feeling annoyed for some reason. Bottom line is that I don't know if I can finish this one. I have taken four days to get through about 4 hours of this book - that,s a really slow pace for me. Doesn't seem to going anywhere too fast, and it is not due to extensive character development.
Don't be turned off by those who complain about too many voices disrupting the flow of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Some chapters were better than others, but it all hung together well and I'm glad I made the decision to buy this one. It was a good listen with a good twist that I certainly didn't see coming.
Considering the number of writers that participated in this book, I would say it is the best book I have ever read. It flows well as each author adds to the story in their own style. I have recommended it to many people. Bravo!
What more can I say? A great plot, that had me wanting to make my 30 minute commute to work a 3 hour commute! It gripped me from the first sentence to the last. A great plot about a lady who might have been executed for a crime she didn't commit. It's ten years since her death, and the detective who thought he cracked the case is wracked by guilt, his life a mess he seeks to uncover the truth once and for all. But that when things start to get fast and furious. He finds that he and some other characters are harassed and threatened and he realizes that he may be on to something. A great ending, great writing from many of my favorite authors like Jeffery Deaver, Alexander McCall Smith, even R.L. Stine.
The readers were fantastic, now I just wish that they can turn this into a film.
Am now 80 and been avid reader since childhood. Have 3 children, 7 grandchildren. Narrated Talking Books for Vision Australia 35 yrs.
This was an interesting consept - multiple authors and narrators. I would not have bought/borrowed the book but listened avidly. I couldn't put it down.
