Cruel, kind, thrilling.
I have to name all moments regarding the children, both "Mjá" Mia and Superman.
He is a very good narrater. He is never at any fault with the character in the story.
Maybe it is when Superman see the pitcures on the computer and thinks he has mislaid his trust in Rafferty. What rage he has felt!!
Good, good story, moving and jet so thrilling. So well read. Thank you.
Great narration & a gripping story - thriller-style mystery. The main character, Poke, is very believable & I would like to see what happens next in the series. I was revolted, horrified and physically sickened by the various tortures described in the book, but although these are present they are not described gratuitously.
Writing's not bad, but what's taken for granted here is completely unacceptable. Child rape and sexual slavery is a given in this culture, and this story tries to balance it out by praising the wonderful manners people tend to have. Give me the rude and crude any day, as long as they manage to refrain from raping children. Although the hero is committed to helping as many victims as wander into his life, no one's outraged, except the children themselves, who are fierce, smart and (sadly) unbelievable.
What a great book. Really good. And I really didn't expect it to be. Poke, Meow, and Rose are great characters and the plot is interesting and fascinating. I learned more about Thailand and the sex trade there without getting lectured to. I have already listened to the second Poke Rafferty book and have downloaded the third. Don't hesitate with these!
