I'm from Trenton, NJ. I was looking for a little fun and it happens to be set in my hometown. But it was a crap story that I couldn't even make halfway through. Maybe it's the way the dialogue is written or just bad writing in general but I couldn't stand this book.
I hate to slag a narrator. It's a lot of work to read an entire book, make the characters have personality and make it appeal to the masses - but this narrator is just not right for this book. Her gasping for air every few seconds and heavy smoker's raspy voice do not suit the vivaciousness of spunky Stephanie Plum.
This is my first Janet Evanovich book - she's a good, quirky writer but I could not stand to listen to another read by this narrator.
This was a light story that made my commute home a bit more tolerable...I call movies or books like this "fluff"...not going to be a literary classic, but good, fun story-telling.
A good fun, romance with a comic flair and some intrigue.
Everything about this book was great from the writing, narrating, story line. This book has action, comedy (so funny) will definitely get the whole series.
I enjoyed the story overall, but I grew up in that area and people from Trenton, NJ do not talk like New Yorkers! Kind of made it difficult to listen to when the reader simply made everyone (except Stephanie herself) sound like the New York Mafia.
Have been an avid Kinsey Milhome fan. Just met Stephanie Plum and am looking forward to her personal growth as an FTA rookie. Am on 3 and still loving it!
New character to get to know.
Worth the money (credits).
Life in New Jersey!
Stephanie Plum tells it like it is!
We drove from California to Texas making Stephanie a great companion for our ride.
Two for the Show... here we come!
I was fun to listen to, not the best I've ever heard.
Yes, I would
nothing in particular, though I do enjoy books more when I can tell which character is talking and I could with this one.
What it lacks in verisimilititude it makes up for in entertainment value.
I read this series about 4 years ago and laughed out loud through the first 3 or 4 books. After that it became the same plot and stopped at number 8. I saw the move and thought I would give the audio version a try and was very disappointed. The voice for the narrator was just not right and did not fit the description of the main character.
