"it takes time"
The narrator for this is really dry and that causes a person to want to turn it off and go to another book. Give it time and the story will finally draw you in. This is one that you shouldn't multi-task when listening. There are changes of dialog that would be better if the narrator actually changed the voices to give character references so you need to pay attention.
I want to hear the series so I am stuck with her as the narrator but she does a poor job for this one. Hope the next improves ...
"Nice cozy mystery"
I enjoyed listening to this book, and I found I was picking up my needlework more often than usual! Something about the descriptions of yarns, silks, etc, made me want to sink my hands into them. I figured out 'whodunit' about halfway through the book, and enjoyed collecting clues to see if I was right - I was! I plan to purchase more of the series, but I think I'd better visit my local yarn shop first and stock up....
"Good story; hated the narrator"
The narrator nearly ruined this for me. She was very stilted in her delivery, especially of the main heroine's voice, which made her sound unappealing. But the elements of a good "cozy mystery" were there, especially it you like crafts. If later books in this series have a different narrator, I'd definitely consider them. Otherwise, it's off to the library. Be sure to check out the sample recording and see if you can tolerate the narration.
"What I call a fun fluffy mystery."
I already have. Probably will again as I like the characters ,subject matter and not too graphic.
When the ladies start to suspect who the killer is (don't want to give it away)
No
I listen at work so am happy to have long stretches to keep up with the story.
"Pleasant Enough: Satisfaction, No Intrigue"
The characters were likeable and the story engaging enough to hold my interest, so I might try another book by Monica Ferris in the future when I run out of books in my favorite series or by my more preferred authors.
Most interesting: it is set in a yarn shop.
Least interesting: it is set in a yarn shop.
Susan Boyce read well enough, but I thought she made some of the characters sound much older than they were described. I'm in my 50s and I don't think I sound like an old woman!
This book is the first of the Needlecraft series. I love the clever titles.
The book is worth a try. I liked it well enough to consider listening to more of the series in the future. I didn't like it well enough to immediately work my way through all of them right now, one after the other.
"A good fun listen"
I enjoy Monica Ferris books for being light, interesting mysteries. Read the series in order, starting with this one. I must say, I don't love Susan Boyce's reading style but it doesn't get in the way of my liking the content. Her emphasis seems always to be slightly off for my taste. But I've thoroughly enjoyed the whole Crewel World series and wish Audible would get the rest of the books.
"Very Light"
An okay read. Not one I would recommend if you like a story with good twists and turns.
"Somewhat entertaining"
Not a crafty person so all the needlework references were a bit wearing but helped fill an afternoon of housework.
"Predictable"
A better reader.
Not well read, in fact I nearly stopped listening.
Reading seemed wooden and many times the accent fell on the wrong words. Very annoying.
Though the story was fairly predictable, I enjoyed several of the characters. Could be a fun, mindless chic-lit if the proper performance was there.
"The narrator is just too monotone for me!"
not sure
liked the details of and the story
She is just so monotone!
