There were many twists and turns with this book. Good story line but again, you need to begin the series from the beginning if possible.
The narrator sounded like Martha Stewart. I guess if you can get past that she is ok but I just could not. I will stay away from Shannon Cockran's narration in the future.
Very good book and classic Karin Slaughter

The characters seemed cardboard and the "action" too violent, even for a police procedural. The listener was kept inside the mind of someone who was not only being tortured in graphic detail, but tortured *senselesssly* . Even characters we were supposed to sympathize with were disrespectful, amoral, and treating each other like crap.
One of the psychopaths in the book blamed his Catholic upbringing for his conduct, and I found the charge both unrealistic and insulting.
Not my usual fare...and this book made me see why.
Not worth listening.
I found myself confused by the turns from bad to worse. Frankly, the forces of evil got all the saving throws and the "good cards," and way too quickly. The character hooks felt just as "wrong" as the rest of the book, and *nothing* was emphasized *except* violence and confusion
Rated R for excessive violence and denigration of family boundaries by *both* the "good" AND the "evil" characters.
I like good books
The narrator could have been better
The ending was good
Yes it did
Maybe I would
No dont have any
This was the first story by Karin Slaughter that I have read/listened to. I listen and read.......so enjoy the ability to do this! This story compelled me to purchase other books by this author and I have enjoyed reading/listening to them.
I loved reading about King Arthur and Knights of the round table when I was a wee lad. Now I am older and love Game of Thrones!
The characters have engaging personalities in which you want to read on, not just about the case, but to find out what happens next in their lives. Its true, written by others.. read these in order... and these books are ones you can't put down.. or want to keep listening to.. you get hooked and want to devour what happens next. Very well written.. very well narrated.. I like Shannon Cochran's voices of characters , and their personalities.
Dr. Sara Linton and Will Trent attraction to each other. I also enjoy how the author shows both their points of view in the story solving the case, along with Faith Mitchell.
S Cochran has a passionate way of becoming the characters, and you follow along in the story, whereas , her voice never gets on your nerve. She does an excellent job.
This book made me smile by the touching way that Sara went after Will. She finally caught on, his sad life, his miserable marriage... Meanwhile, the other characters like Faith, and Amanda were rooting for Will.. they knew what was going on.. before he even did.
Not only a good book but a great series. I have recommended them to my brother, and to my friends who like cop/suspense books. I was hooked after reading Unseen, and Broken. They are hard to put down and are to be enjoyed. I am so happy I found them. I encourage people who like detective novels, to join in and enjoy.
My first book by this author and boy was it a doozy. Everyone thinks they know why Faith Mitchell's mother, a former police officer, has been kidnapped. Or do they?
This book had me from the beginning. It's an action packed mystery with some unexpected twists and turns. It brings up a number of secrets in the personal and professional lives of the characters. It is full speed ahead from the beginning
Karin Slaughter has written alot of books. And some of them are so different from each other, with plots and story lines you wonder how she ever came up with them. But they all have the same thing in common--they are realistic, keep you totally engaged, and involve characters that you can relate too. I would recommend ALL of her books and short stories to anyone looking for a writer on par with Lawrence Block or Harlan Coban.
I bought this book from the Audible Daily Deal. Out of all the books, I've purchased in the daily deal or otherwise, this one is the best. The characters are well thought out, the dialogue excellent and the narration really good.
I'm looking forward to now downloading other books from this author.
Reading allows me to travel through time; to visit the world's unique and stunning places. To become somebody I am not... It is glorious.
I like Karin Slaughter's writing style. I really like the main characters Will, Sarah and Faith. And I was glad to learn a bit more about the backgrounds or Will, Angie and Faith. Unfortunately, though, the ending left me wanting more. It surprised me -- I didn't guess the ending on this one and that is always a positive thing when reading a mystery. However, I still wished for more. I don't want to spoil the plot so it is difficult to explain what I found lacking. I will just say that the last three chapters felt as though they were rushed. Ms Slaughter's plot lines normally unfurl quietly and slowly, much like peeling away the layers of an onion. I like that. This book felt the same until the end, and then it just felt like all the secrets were revealed so quickly that there wasn't time to relish each one on its own.
Yes, I am reading the next Will Trent book starting tonight. I gave this one three stars, but I did enjoy it. And I am sure I will enjoy the next one too.
Yes only because I really Like Will...
Interesting? Least interesting? Old women you can not keep them down!
Her Mexican / Texan accent was not needed, almost annoying.
Not really... I tried to return it but the website was not working right... so i went thru it with the thoughts of my next book ready and waiting!
Maybe its me... I did not like the book, I am not big on drug, gangs etc... I love suspense books though. This book had no suspense, but it had a lot of characters who I got crossed and confused about.
If you listen to books and do something else - like crafts or even dishes you may need to rewind a lot!
The ending was blah... Probably because I was really not into it.
All the low reviews I agree with...
Im glad I got through it :) OK, not horrible...
