I've heard that humor comes from a place of truth. The closer it is to the truth, the funnier it is. This is hilarious! It accurately reflects the pains of putting a child down to bed who isn't sleepy. Mr. Jackson's rendition of a parent's desperation at bedtime left me giggling throughout.
I read science, biographies, histories, mysteries, adventures, thrillers, educationals, linguistics but not no way, not no how, romances.
Come on! Why are you reading a review! It's narrated by Samuel L. Jackson! Just buy the thing!
Making the world better one review at a time.
Go the F--k to Sleep proves that social media can make or break a book. One night, after growing frustrated with his daughter's antics at bed time, author Adam Mansbach posted on Facebook, "Look out for my forthcoming children's book - Go the F--k to Sleep." The response was overwhelming, and Mansbach began working on the book. But social media wasn't finished with this story yet. Before its official publication date, PDF advance copies of the book went viral and Go the F--k to Sleep ended up in the No. 1 spot on the bestseller list.
So does the story live up to all the hype?
Yes and no. Samuel L. Jackson's reading of the book is fantastic. He does a wonderful job of portraying the weary parent who no longer cares if he is a "sh--ty" parent, he just wants his kid to go the f--k to sleep. The narrative, however, quickly gets old. It's like a book of jokes that all have the same punchline.
Honestly, I am probably not in a position to review this book. Not having children myself, and never having experienced the struggle to get a child to go to sleep, I laughed at this book but was unable to relate. If you are a parent, you should definitely buy this book and listen for yourself. At under $2 and only 6 minutes of listening time, you just can't go wrong.
I'm just here for the laughs!
As a mother of 3, this was absolutely one of the funniest and most honest "bedtime stories" I've ever heard! My husband listened, and almost shot his drink through his nose! Samuel L. Jackson was the perfect narrator... I'm telling everyone I know about it.
I'm on my 315th audiobook since 2007. I only discovered Audible in 2010 and I find it's a great way to manage my audiobook budget.
I'm pretty sure that my Dad had these same thoughts running through his head when I was little and wanted that one last story, the last drink of water, one more trip to the potty. However, I hope to God that no little kid ever has to actually hear this. It's funny for adults, but definitely should be R Rated. I got it because it was free. Free was worth it.
It's not MY granny's bedtime story but it is very funny! My kids are all grown up but I know there were times that I wanted to say just that- and probably did!
This book is now topping my list of baby shower gifts. It's a must for every parent to hear at least once or to revisit when their own precious little darling won't go the F*** to sleep.
Samuel L.Jackson was perfection as the reader - the man should patent the word F***.
This is a humorous tidbit that will provide many a laugh to overstressed parents everywhere. Buy it and listen to it on your way to work - it'll start your day off with a good bellylaugh.
