Audiobooks have literally changed my life. I now actually ENJOY doing mindless chores because they give me plenty of listening time!
It seems that this book rose to best-seller status thanks to a viral online campaign which 'leaked' pdf images all over the internet prior to the book's release. But however it got to the top spot, I'd say it deserved the praise. One big caveat: if you're easily offended by profanity, I'd say you'd best stay away. Otherwise, this book about an exhausted parent reading a bedtime story to a child who will not go the f**k to sleep, and evidently has been refusing to go the f**k to sleep for a good while now, is hilarious. I'm not a parent, but I've done my share of babysitting and au pairing in my time, and boy, could I relate. This version narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, may lack the illustrations (which I hear are very lovely), but Jackson's reading of this six-minute little tale is just priceless.
I love reading a variety of genres and authors - audiobooks are my new best friend as I knit or travel.
Yes. I have many friends who are parents, and I think we've all been at this point with a child. Or three.
His preface was hilarious. And really, given the title of the book, there's no one else who could have read this as an audiobook.
Yes. It inspired me to make sure my child gets tuckered out by some sort of physical activity every day so we're less likely to have a
I'm not usually a poetry reader (or listener), but I thought I'd give this a try for a little ear candy. Samuel Jackson was the perfect reader, getting just the right note of exasperation in his voice as the evening progresses. However, if you're not a big fan of profanity you might want to skip this. It isn't exactly over the top but it is a bit much for my taste. Still, it was a pretty funny poem with an excellent narrator. And all parents have lived through this kind of evening at some point or another!
I love a good cozy mystery or paranormal book. Some of my favorites are Dresden Files, Stephanie Plum, the Hollows, & Hannah Swenson series.
If you want a good laugh this is the book. It summarizes how just about every parent has felt at one point or another. Samuel L. Jackson is the ONLY person who could have done this book justice. If you're at all familiar with his work you can guess why. Think "Pulp Fiction" meets bedtime story. However, this is obviously NOT a book for your kids to hear... unless you live in a home where the F word is used freely and happily by all. When your kids are driving you nuts & you just want them to lay down, fall asleep & give you some peace for a while just pop in your headphones, poor a glass of wine, & enjoy. :)
Listens for a living.
Jackson's delivery takes this from novelty to must listen. Jackson starts soft, even warm, and let's the Pulp Fiction sneak up on you. Hilarious.
I don't know. I haven't read the book, but Jackson is perfect for this.
I could relate to it.
