Love listening to books.
Zakaria presents a lot of information, but does not always connect the dots. There is a number of areas throughout the book in which a leap of faith is required to connect the presented facts and his suggested outcome. His political analysis is spot on, as is his analysis of the motivations of other governments. However, his demographics analysis is factually correct for data to date, but he fails to extrapolate on those trends and account for it in his analysis.
Overall, I did like the book, and thought he presented a number of reasoned arguments, but was disappointed by his selective skirting of issues that might challenge his desired outcome.
To some degree, I felt like the content of the book was shaped to present his outcome alone.
Zakariah's well researched and pragmatic approach to understanding the economic and political world we live in today was enlightening and encouraging. A rational voice in the cacophony of political tripe that we are inundated with is a rare and valuable find!!
Facts and the killing of mental ogres. Hard to stop and take breaks!!
I run the player at 1.25% and at that speed Zakariah is very easy to listen to. He obviously believes what he wrote!
Actually this book made me hopeful and happy while at the same time puzzled about how to fix our polarized and broken political system that can't get anythingh important done.
This should be mandatory reading for every high school senior in America!!
This was a fantastic learning experience from the very start. I learned more about the world than I ever thought I would from a book I thought was mostly about economics!
Knowledge about the 13th and 14th century world was really surprising.
He as a nice voice and does not exagerate or impose his oppinions on the facts. Check most of the things that I have believed to be different and found his research to be 100% correct.
Shock at why so much of world history is was left out of my American version!
Everyone should read this book just to find out what other countries were and are really doing, not the Fox News versions we hear every day.
Well written book by Fareed. Can't remember any one so well versed with history, world politics & current affairs. Fareed Zakaria stands out as a great role model by his achievements so far. Even more with his authentic analysis of global affairs & vision of optimism for America.
Full of information and background on how the USA got to our present state and where we could go from here. Written by an Indian-American with a broad world view
He thought global warming was underestimated and that we were running out of oil. Turned out to be wrong about both. Should have stuck to things he understood.
Who is accomplished enough to claim a critic's eye? Who is as masterful as those who have written for the rest of us to read? When I was a young man, I believed I knew what was better than something else. Now, I am in awe of everything. Now I realize that the older I get, the less I know.
It is obvious that Mr. Zarkaria knows his history. But, that is not enough to leaven this loaf of dread! This lamentation drags on and on and pon and on. His voice and his accent are numbing. Cheer up, Mr. Zakaria! The show has just begun! Things will never be the same again as days gone by. But they sure as heck will be even more exciting!
