All I can say is I really enjoyed it, a good break from the sex book's that I didn't know were XXXXX rated,,,
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This was a good story. I liked Emma and Sean and their story was enjoyable.
Emma is a nice lady with her own landscaping company. She was orphaned at the age of 4 and was raised by her grandparents. Her grandfather died and her grandmother has moved to Florida for her retirement but still worries about Emma. Unfortunately, Emma's Grandmother can't seem to relax and enjoy her retirement, worrying about Emma all alone without a man to look after her. Emma doesn't want her to worry so she made up a fake man, planning to replace him with a real man when she started dating a real guy. Unfortunately, Emma hasn't had time to find a man and now her Grandmother is coming for a visit.
Sean is has just left the Army and is trying to figure out what to do with his life now. He and his siblings have a lodge in Maine but he decides to hang around his New Hampshire side of the Kowalski family for a bit and visit with his cousins, Aunt and Uncle. He's just settling in to his temporary apartment when he's surprised by a visit from a woman he's convinced must be crazy.
Emma is best friends with Sara and has heard a lot about Sean from her. When she first told her grandmother about her fake boyfriend she had just heard talk about Sean so she used his name and a bit about him since it was easier than making someone up. She figured eventually she'd find a real boyfriend and then tell her grandmother that her and Sean broke up and she'd bring up the real boyfriend. Unfortunately, with an unexpected visit from her Grandmother, Emma is freaked and doesn't know what to do. Her grandmother seems convinced that Emma shouldn't be alone and keeps threatening to move back from Florida because she doesn't think Emma should be alone. Also, she keeps making comments that makes Emma think she might sell her home (which still belongs to her grandmother) out from under her because it's too much for her to handle as a "single woman" when all Emma wants is to buy the house for her own. Emma's convinced that if her Grandmother sees the truth she'll ruin her life to come back to live with Emma so Emma is determined to figure something out and ends up at Sean's door, introducing herself as his fake fiancee (which gets him thinking she's crazy). Sean is not interested at all at first but after stewing it over for a while he decides to go ahead and help Emma out.
Sean and Emma don't have much time to get to know each other before her grandmother comes so they have quite a job to pull off. They have mixed results and this isn't helped by the fact that Sean's family do their best to make things tough on him and Emma while still playing along. Emma and Sean of course have an attraction between them but neither is ready to settle down and they both make it clear there's nothing between them, not even sex. As they proceed with the masquerade, Sean and Emma begin to get to know each other and although there's issue on both side that they could complain about, they also find a lot in each other that they like. Soon they're both having to fight the physical attraction between them as well as the deepening feelings between them. Eventually of course, they give in to the sexual attraction between them but they both still try to keep it temporary, thinking that once her grandmother is gone they will be done. There's the expected drama between Emma and Sean as they try to figure things out and don't do very good at it. Thankfully some good advice brings one of them to their senses and they come together in the end so they can start their HEA.
This was an enjoyable story. I liked Emma and Sean as well as the secondary characters. I liked the story but it was pretty much what I expected with no unexpected twists so I guess I just had a little trouble getting completely into the story (the reason for 3 stars instead of 4). Overall it was a good story though and I'll probably try more of the series down the line. :)
I am the definition of a contradiction. I am a tomboy but just can't seem to get enough of romance books!
This book is one i would over and over again! Its full of humor and fun and just simply a really good listen. Once again Lauren Fortgang delivered the characters well! I love her! Its a light listen but one that made my 8 hour shift at work pass by very fast!
In between my romance/mystery books, this was a nice relaxing listen that didn't require much concentration - but I still really enjoyed it though! Typical romance :-)
Reviewing Romance & Urban Fantasy
I’ve found a new author and series to add to my auto buy list.
“Oh yes, Sean Kowalski. Your amazing kisses have made all rational thought fly out of my besotted brain. If only you could fill me with your magic penis, I know we’ll fall madly in love and live happily ever after.”
I love Lauren Fortgang’s narration of the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep so I wanted to check out some more of her work. I listened to books 1 & 2 in the Kowalski Family and loved the narration and writing so it was a no brainer for me to listen to this one too.
What I liked:
Everything really. Shannon Stacey knows how to write a sweet, fun and sexy romance. I love how this series is built around a family so that we get to see past couples and get glimpses of future leading characters. The Kowalski is so heart warming and fun to read that I wish I could be part of their family. From the older generation to the even the kids, Stacey has created a great world within the crazy, fun-loving family.
What I didn’t like:
Shannon Stacey and Lauren Fortgang is another great author/narrator combo that goes on my favorite list.
Will I continue this series:
YES! I’m totally hooked and already have the other books waiting for me to devour them.
Would I read this author again:
I’ve already read 2 other novels and 3 novella by Shannon Stacey so it’s safe to say YES I will continue to read her books.
I'm a busy mom who loves to listen to books. Mostly I listen on my way to and from work.
I have enjoyed this whole series. It has a good feel to it.
I like Lauren Fortgang. She does a good job.
Just an overall good love story!
When Sean told Emma he loved her.
She is a good narrator. she has narrated the others in this series and I love her.
Pretend love turns real
Shannon Stacey is a good writer, her books are so happy and wonderful to listen to, this book was really good.
I love to read and I love to listen to good books! Because I can listen while I walk, its great for both my health and the health of my dog Rubi.
It was funny, witty and made me laugh out loud
Granny. ...or the cousins.....or the brother.
She reads as though she is enjoying it!
Its mental chewing gum but its damn good, worth while mental chewing gum.
Shawn.... from written character to narrator interpretation he was sexy as hell.
From the identifiable individuality of voices to the cadence and timber of her voice I just found her comfortable to listen to. You know how sometimes you hear the almost wrong accents or the way a voice always drags or drops or raises the last of every sentence? Or the way the story is a whisper or one sex isnt right? I always notice the smallest things... but this time I heard the story and the people in it. .. all I can add is 'well done'!
Without offering up the spoiler that this question asks for. ... when a game is played and they have so much fun (if that could even bw the right word) with it that I laughed so hard I tears in my eyes!
A very easy going story... predictable but still a fun take on it. The road is silly and brainless. But enjoyable. Worth a credit? If you're into harlequin style romance novels without much steam then maybe.... I say that as its price is about the same as a credit... personally I would buy it and use my credit more wisely.
There is just something about "pretending to be in a relationship" story line for me that will never get old. IT always sets up impossibly hilarious situations, awkward moments, and just straight up fun. Emma and Sean do not disappoint in this scenario. When grandma gets in on the fun, I just couldn't stop listening. And as per usual, the ending was worth the wait. But readers- be warned. Not all Kowalski family books are created equal. Kari and Joe was good, Emma and Sean is better! But please, skip Mitch and Paige. I forgo'ed Kevin and Beth because reviewers said stay away- and i'm glad i did.
So do yourself a favor- Jump into Emma and Sean! But be wary of the series as an entirety.
