If you like your sci fi mix with comedy like the greats Douglas Adams and Robert Asprin then this book is for you. I loved it. I wish I could find more books that can deliver the mix of sci fi and comedy like the greats. I will be listening to his other books now and see how they turned out.
Wil Wheaton did a good job on the reading and making the comedy come across in the way it was intended.
A business professional with a voracious reading habit. My favorites are crime dramas and sci-fi/fantasy, but the occasional romance or history read is great too.
This is one of the best stories I have read on Audible.com. I had never read Little Fuzzy. I can see why H. Beam Piper's family allowed this book to be published.
Jack Holloway, he isn't what you expect.
Wil Wheaton is fantastic!! I am a big fan of his acting and now he just re-enforced my enjoyment of his talents. John Scalzi has done a great job! I am a fan now.
Not wanting to provide any spoilers, but the security tape after the cabin burned down.
If you want a very good story with mild twists and turns, some laughs and heart string pulling, this is the story for you. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the bonus of having the original story makes it just that much better.
This is a great and moving story that will keep you interested all the way through. If you like science fiction and legal thrillers you are going to like this book. While, as a Star Trek fan, I may be biased I think it is also fair to say that Wil Wheaton gives a great performance and an interpretation of characters that really enhances the experience. Great listen!!
It's gotta be this one. I never read John Scalzi before. His sense of humor, sarcasm, optimism, environmentalism just captivated me.....I could not sleep regularly because of this book, I wanted to finish it.
Will Wheaton was a great choice, being Trekkie, I liked Will, but he could do much better job if he were with a little more emotion and animation.....I liked him though.
And, I can't thank you enough John for writing such an entertaining book when my business was falling apart a little. You book certainly kept my optimism and morale high.
I don't give accolades easily, I grew up in early sixties by reading giants like Asimov, Clarke, Pohl, Agatha Christie...We didn't have any TV or any gadgets....
We had only our imaginations.
Myst/thrillers and ✨fun fantasies✨are my favorites but always open for a good story.
It's a fun believable scyFy
Made me laugh.
A great inventive get away. Fantastic Characters.
I am an Australian woman who enjoys reading many different styles of books, from history to sci fi and mystery to poetry.
Will Wheaton does a terrific job of narrating this wonderful story. I could have done without John Scalzi's input though. An engaging story without being too overly taxing on the old brain matter.
I haven't read the original (yet) so, for me, this was its own story.
I love a book which gets literal LOL moments and this one had a few. Of course having cuddly cat-things didn't hurt, either :)
As per my always, Will Wheaton is a fantastic narrator! Quite humorous to hear him refer to & give voice to a particular character, which I will let you discover yourself.
Ok, so the book was good - and the bonus of being able to listen to the original version of the story was just that, a bonus.
But the main purpose of this review is to warn about the character dialog:
As soon as I started listening to this book I remembered why it had been in my wishlist and not in my library.
This book reminded me of another of Scalzi's efforts: "RedShirts" - in which the dialog between characters may drive you to distraction.
"I do" said A.
"What do you do" asked B.
"I do what I want" said A.
"That's not a proper answer" replied B.
The above may be *readable*, but when narrated all of the "he said, she said" stuff gets very old, very quickly.
In the future I may stick to the print/kindle versions of Scalzi's books.
PS: Wil Wheaton, as usual, does an awesome job narrating.
I was hesitant to get this audio book because I read many negative comments on Amazon, but I like Scazi and Wheaton, so for it anyway, and I am glad I did.
The characters are interesting. The main one is insufferable and likeable at the same time.
I have still to finish the original book, but this one stands on its own.
I bought the audiobook on a whim since i liked Wil Wheaton's performance in Ready Player One. Damn I was not disappointed! He puts on a stellar performance bringing out the various characters. The story itself is very good and even though its only around 8 hours long, it felt longer and by the end of it.. I could say i was extremely satisfied with everything.
p.s the audiobook not only made me laugh, but.. made me cry.. which is kind of scary since the people at work were wondering what happened haha.
