I stopped listening slightly after we got to the "evil democrat." I tried to get into this book several times and just couldn't. I usually like the thriller style of books, but this one just seemed a little too silly to take seriously.
I did leave three stars because maybe it gets better as you go on. At least it would almost have to.
Another fine Flynn page turner and Mitch Rapp, or should I say Mr. Cruz does not disappoint. Stanfield is a cagey statesman as usual and unlike the recent movie fiascos, this assault on the white house is a bit more realistic.
Sullivan was a welcomed narrator compared to other audible narrators I have experienced.
I very much enjoyed this book of the series. More action in more depth as compared to the beginning of the series. I look forward to the next book!
I was extremely surprised by the first read lines in this book, I figured a new reader would make no difference to this series... Wow was I WRONG! Certain voices made me cringe as it was being read, every exchange between King and the VP made me feel like I was listening to a Simpsons episode. Kings voice was extremely difficult to listen to, the reader must have just plugged his nose for the parts he was reading as King, and the VP's voice kept reminding me of the reverend from the Simpsons! Thank god Flynn is a master of this genre, I will skip every single book read by this narrator except in this series (I'm simply addicted to the Mitch Rapp series) I looked ahead to the narrators in this series and am extremely disappointed they actually let this guy narrate another book in the series, but I'm forced to listen to one more by this guy.... Still absolutely worth buying, but be prepared
The story was good with decent characters. It took a while to get used to the narrator but after an hour or so that was not a problem. The ending was a little abrupt but over all it was a good story.
I started the Mitch Rapp series with the 2 prequel books American Assassin and Kill Shot. It seems like the character has changed over the years, bot not by much. There not as many times for Rapp to shine, but that's from the story since so many people were involved, and had a lower body count and action than I hoped for. It was still good, but not as exciting as the previous 2. I believe this series will get better, obviously, and hopefully I see more of what I liked in young Rapp in later books.
I'm just beginning this series and this just added more fuel to the fire. Can't wait to get into the next one.
The only drawback was the narrator. I was disappointed. No comparison to the 1st one. Because the story is so good I got I stuck with it and finally got used to it. I'll pass on future titles with this narrator. This series will be the exception.
If you're a Mitch Rapp fan like me you won't be sorry.
