I typically don't get excited about an autobiography. I had seen an interview of Mr. Lowe about his book and became interested, am so thankful I did! Mr. Lowe does an excellent job of giving history without "trashing" anyone. of giving credit where it is well deserved and of admitting his flaws. His narration is excellent!! I hope he will narrate many more as he also has a talent for that! This is another book I listened to again after I had finished, and am sure I will listen to again soon. Thank You Mr. Lowe
I don't know why it is that we often assume that "beautiful" people will be vacuous and shallow. Mr Lowe's telling of his "stories" proves that such an assumption is without merit.
Both my husband and I were entertained by Mr Lowe's life story, and highly recommend it.
Struggling with my teens, struggling with my 20s, I felt this book to be so relatable. Unbelievable stories from such a commanding voice. Already ordered all of the west wing on net flix.
Will listen to any type of book: fiction, biography, business. I drive two hours daily and use audiobooks to tolerate the drive.
What a great book. I grew up while these actors were starting their careers, and maybe it makes it more fun to listen to. I loved how he talked about these soon to be stars and all their struggles. I loved it!
Having grown up in the 80's I was intrigued by this book by my former Teen Beat crush but went in not expecting much. I LOVED this book. Rob Lowe's narration following his career from his childhood through the video scandal to the West Wing has renewed my crush all over again and really put that sex video scandal in perspective. If it had happened now it would've restarted his career not stalled it!
I hold great stock in fellow Audible listeners' reviews, and when I stumbled onto this book (a book I would ordinarily not consider reading) I decided that all those reviewers couldn't be wrong. And I was right! This was a marvelous book, exceptionally well-written, funny and interesting. Lowe reveals himself to be so much more than his handsome face. His Cary Grant impersonation is worth the price of admission alone. Enjoy!
Never without an audible book on my phone!
What surprise. I took a chance because Audible listed this as the sleeper hit of the year. Who knew that Rob Lowe was such a fantastic writer and storyteller? His narration is top notch and the tales he has to tell are very intriguing. You have to admire the fact that he was able to pull himself out of the drug and alcohol scene at 26...and he never went back. Bravo.
I've always loved Rob Lowe, and hearing him read his autobiography was a real treat. As I came of age in the mid-1980s, I was a little disappointed that he spent so much time talking about "The Outsiders" and so little time talking about "St. Elmo's Fire," but it was a great listen.
At first I wasn't sure I would like this book. It started out with a melancholy tone as Rob told about his childhood; about feeling like he never fit in, and about the break up of his parent's marriage. But a few chapters later it switched to a more neutral tone. Rob brought up many of his antics and relationships as a young man, but this wasn't a tell all. If you're looking to get any juicy details you'll be sorely disappointed because he doesn't elaborate much on the controversies or relationships in his life other than to acknowledge them.
What he does elaborate on, however, is how he got into the acting, and what it was like for him behind the scenes on the Outsiders and a couple of other movies. I especially enjoyed his accounts of meeting Liza Minnelli, and of his relationship with John Kennedy. These "rest of the story" vignettes are packaged like little surprises throughout the book and they are such a delight. Also, Rob Lowe is the narrator and he does some amazing impressions of Tom Cruise and Patrick Swayze; an added bonus for listeners of the ebook. Overall I enjoyed this book and am proud of the man that Rob Lowe has become today.
