I never paid much attention to Rob Lowe until the West Wing, in which I thought he was remarkably good. I enjoyed him in Austin Powers and of course knew about the stupid sex tape - and was kind of iffy about this book - but the reviews talked me into it - and Im glad they did. It was an interesting story about an improbable life that turned into a really decent and friendly guy. No tabloid junk here, just matter of fact and personal. I recommend it for a pleasant listen.
This audiobook has been so well-received that I expected it to be good. It was even better than "good": it was touching, funny and so enjoyable. Mr. Lowe's stories about becoming a Hollywood star and growing into a mature, nuanced artist are beautifullly told. I was deeply moved by the way he shared his experience of growing up in a home where the adults were distracted by their own problems, his commitment to life-long recovery and his deep love for his wife, Sheryl, and their two sons, Matthew and John Owen. This is the best kind of audiobook: it is beautifully written and artfully performed.
This book is okay, not great. Rob Lowe competently chronicles his rise to success, discussing many of the formative events that occurred along his journey. I suppose that regular readers of industry publications would know most of it already, i.e., what roles he got and which ones slipped away, and his myriad celebrity flings and acquaintances. This book provides Lowe with an opportunity to voice his side of these stories, but these are definitely not the stories he only tells his friends.
It must be noted, however, that he does a brilliant job with the narration.
Yes. Next time I want to have a pen and piece of paper to write down some of the things he said. I am far from an actor but could relate to a lot things he said and his feelings on certain things. His insight is remarkable.
Finding out he actually grew up with Charlie, Tom and others and how he grew up. Rob's unremarkable memory, real gift of understanding himself and others and sharing it so vividly. Just about everything was
I loved that Rob himself read his story. I don't think anyone could of read it with the heart and passion as he did. I don't think I would of enjoyed the book as much had he not read it himself.
I could not stop listening to him. I couln't wait to hear what happened next. I was so interested in hearing all about him. I always knew him on TV or at the movies now I feel I know the real Rob Lowe and I respect and like him.
Great writing. Great book. Can't wait to till Rob's next book comes out.
I've always like Rob, He always seemed down to earth and now this book proved it.
The one and only Rob Lowe
Heck YES, but people have to work....
If you don't listen to this book your Crazy, if you don't like his politics thats ok, he still a man of the People. It is SO worth the money, I can't say enough about the book.
Rob Lowe has done an amazing job. I'm 23 years old and knew virtually nothing about Rob Lowe prior to reading this book. I had only seen him on Parks & Recreation. After reading about some of the buzz his audiobook generated, I decided to listen.
This is the only audiobook that I've actually listened to more than once!
Not only is Rob Lowe a good writer, but he is also a great story-teller! I thought this would be uninteresting to me since I wasn't a previous fan, and I hadn't seen most of his work as an actor, but I watched The Outsiders after listening to this audiobook, and it was so cool to know the inside scoop about his experience while watching the movie! His life is filled with so many amazing stories- and even though this book is full of name-dropping, he does it in such an exciting and honest way. I think the best part of this book was how honest and open Rob Lowe seemed about his life. He has truly undergone some amazing transformations and I feel proud of him even though I've never met him! That's how good this audiobook is!!
This book surprised me how much I liked it! I do sometimes feel bad listening to audio books instead of reading but this one I encourage listening to since Rob narrates!
Best I've heard
Just one, there were soooo many, JFK JR's association with Rob
His narration of his own story, as only someone who has lived it can transend the emotion.
I cannot wait to rent/buy all of his movies now.
