I don't usually rush out for all the "best sellers", but give each intriguing book/author a look. I have found many diamonds in the rough.
Argh, my second good book in a row ruined by juvenile sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, when done well I like how they can round out a good story. Not the case here, however, I liked and was enthralled in the parts covering the fire jumping. It was interesting and exciting but the main character of the story was, IMHO, too juvenile to have such a serious and dangerous job. She acted extremely bratty, binge drank, and was far too sassy to take serious. There were two seperate relationships that had such rediculous sex chapters that I skipped through parts. Going on to buddy read another Nora Roberts book that I hope will be much better. This was not even in the ballpark of her better books.
Absolutely love this book, wish there where more just like it. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I loved the story. it was a true page turner. everything came together perfectly from beginning to end. the only reason I didn't give this story 5 stars is because of the narrative. I didn't like how the narrator didn't seem to change her voice much between characters.
This is a very good book about smoke jumpers that risk all every day on the job. Rowen, a take control woman is a smoke jumper who's got it in her blood from her iron man father. He a single parent raised his daughter alone and is very proud of her. Someone blames Rowen for a death of a fellow jumper which leads to murders and the battle of not only Mother Nature but man too. This book had me rite from the beginning. What more can you ask for, strong woman lead, action, romance, and murder. Rowen breaks one of her own rules by falling for a rookie jumper. Of course Gull is the hottest and best rookie at camp. He works very hard to romance Rowen and wins her over. Roberts did it again with this book, one of my favorite one. "Witness" is also on my list of favorites. The narrator Rebecca Lowman does a great job on this book. She is creative with her characters, very talented and a joy to listen to. She does a super job w/ all the male characters making my windshield time fly by. I will look for more of her work.
The story was ok but predictable. I stopped listening as soon as the Villain was revealed. I did enjoy learning about fire jumpers.
But the worst was the narrator. Every syllable of every word was read with a dramatic lilt and it became incredibly annoying.
I collect her books in paperback. She's the 1 author I keep everything I buy. would have given the narrator 5 stars, except there were a few times the voices of characters were hard to tell apart,. Overall a very nice performance. Can't go wrong with Nora!
This story took a long time to get started. I just about quit listening around chapter six when I was questioning what the point was and felt bummed by this wasted credit...but then everything changed. This is a great book! You just need to be patient and let the story play out. It is a mystery and an excellent one at that! It gets really good and draws you in. Plus the usual romance that we all love so much. Nora Roberts yet again proved to be (in my opinion) the most dependable and creative story teller. Five solid stars. Loved it.
The characters were good, unique story line, romance and action. I love the quick wit and sarcastic humor.
The characters were good. I like a few more characters and more in depth background but, this was good. Their were enough side characters but they were not developed.
She was very good and differentiated voices very well, good animation etc.
Any of the main three.
The only book of hers I liked better was The Witness, I have listened to it several times when I can't find another book or have re-listened to my favorites from other authors.
