I enjoy mysteries, science fiction, Stephen King, and some fantasy novels. Now and again I like a biography and a bit of history. No romance!
yes. Gary Sinise did an amazing job. He brought this story to life for me. He gave the characters the perfect voices. Also, the story itself is one of those that makes you think. There are details in it that can be seen from so many different points of view. It brings up interesting moral issues and explores the hard choices that people sometimes face.
I don't want to spoil this for anyone considering listening to it, but there is a scene near the end of the book that had me holding my breath. One of the characters, George, is in a hopeless situation and even though you know what is about to happen, you listen hoping that you're wrong.
sometimes the voices he used make me forget who was reading the story. He becomes the characters. His performance is flawless.
Yes it was. I had always meant to read this book but never had. Once the audio started, I was hooked.
Gary Sinise should read more books. He is easy to listen to and he captures the mood of the scenes perfectly.
The storyline was great, and Gary Sinise did a great job, but for my son the language was bad and there was too much bad language.
I don't think so...
Everything for me... I have reading difficulties and have never read books. Now with my Kindle audio I can't listen/read books fast enough.
Yes, I wanted it to get better and I couldn't wait for that to happen... it never did! Such a terribly sad story... I just sat there and cried my eyes out...
Steinbeck catches the flavor of the working man and the plight of the disenfranchised beautifully. Gary Senise interprets the story in the dialects of the characters in a way that brings the story to life. I will listen to this more than once .
Tremendous reading performance, the voices were perfection, I can't believe what a great story this is and how great John Steinbeck is.
What more can I say other than the performance was excellent, the story was superb, heartfelt, and the descriptions painted a realistic and vivid portrayal of the very special time that existed in so many lives. The irony is that this, in its essence, is not far removed from the present day in many circumstances. I have a newfound respect for Gary as an actor and his abilities. Thank you. Marcus
The narrator did a fantastic job. He is so talented- the voices of the characters sound so different, it's almost as if there was more than one person performing.
The story is sad and depressing. I wish there wasn't so much profanity- it takes away from the story.
Dog lover & book addict.
I've loved Gary Sinise as an actor for years and he really brought this book to life for me!
