A great alternative between Dresden File books. Heavy military fight sequences, women characters a tad too soft, but given time, I think this author can get it right.1
If you're looking for an action/adventure story that incorporates amazing weaponry, werewolves and vampires and other evil creatures with a dash of humor and young love, look no further than this book. Excellent read/listen. . .
Be honest. You're hoping this book will be guilty pleasure. Good old fashioned fun, monsters, shootin', adventurin' fun.
Well, you're in luck. This is awesome.
Oh - and: It has a good story, too.
This is not my usual type of fantasy book but I have to say it was an awesome find! I loved the fact the the protagonist was not some knight in shining armor who no one could resist but an an unattractive guy who's often underestimated. He kicks butt when he can and takes beatings where he must. But struggles on because that's the type of guy he is. The narrator was his own kind of awesome because he fades into the background and makes the story and characters stand out. I bought the next book when I was halfway done with the first and it only took me a few days to listen to over 20 hours of audiobook... It would've taken me less but I sleep 8 hours a night!
This is not a science fiction novel. It is not a fantasy novel either. It would best be classified as horror. There's lots of action. The story is well told and the reader did a good job. But since it was listed as Sci-fi / Fantasy I was very disappointed. The "monsters" are vampires and werewolves. Not what I think of as monsters. Consequently I returned the book.
Lover of books and fictions reads.
Yes! Especially if they are a gun nut, dislike sparkly vampire and believe that all undead creatures are scum of the earth and not potential true love material.
The killings, definitely the killings. Die vampires! Also, death is nothing like the video games, the characters slipped in blood, knocked their heads on things, suffer from road rashes and scratched itchy swamp ticks...
The emotions, or non emotions in the case of Agent Franks, in each of the characters. I love how he can do different female voices to the point that I can know who is talking with just a line. Also, his male voices and accents are cool too. Agent Franks' deep creepy timber, our plucky accountant's Haha! In your face! voice as well as Earl Harbinger's southern accents are all properly presented!
When the world is going to hell, it pays to be prepared
READ THIS!! I've actually reread the whole lot more than five times now. I reread the whole lot whenever the latest book appears.
I listened to an newer book & it was so good I decided to start from the beginning. I liked this start to the series & recommend it highly. Narration is really good.
