This was a little too gory for my taste and the endless minute details given for every weapon mentioned in the book (and there are a lot) makes it seem more of a guy book to me. However, the story was interesting enough to get me through all that weapons minutia. If I was more into monster stories, I'd happily continue with the series. It's not my thing but if you like monster killing madness, you'll love it. The narration was excellent.
Leave out the right wing macho crap and tell the story. The main character and story should be something more than one dimensional. I could not get pass the gun worship.
Anything not written by the author.
Anger. I wasted my credit.
because this book has it. monsters and legends are true and MHI is here to kill them all, but that's not all that the title of this review is referring to.
the book itself is pretty good, but can be dull in certain parts. a bit more editing to cut down could have been done.
where the editing really failed though is in not catching the overuse of the word, "impossible". the author will describe dozens of things throughout the book as impossible, but only as they're actually being done. we get it all, impossible angles, impossible speeds, impossibly high, impossibly tall, impossible speech, impossible everything. someone needs to buy the author a thesaurus so he can describe the unnatural, unlikely, infeasible, unthinkable, and inconceivable things that he wants to get across to the reader as "this insane thing that shouldn't be possible is actually happening right now".
besides that, the book is pretty good. I think the narrator is a bit too old to narrate a book where the main character (who's telling the story in first-person) is only in his mid twenties, but besides that, his reading is pretty decent.
since I started this book years ago it quickly became my favorite scfi book series and I blew through every book in the series to date. I love the mhi series so much I'm getting a whole tattoo sleeve done on my arm revolving around the series. I couldn't recommend this book enough if you love supernatural books or are a fan of lovecraft.
Professional truck driver. Avid reader. I love series. I love long books.
I've listened to this at least a dozen times. One of my favorite series for sure. keep up the good work.
