Having the book read by the author allows it to be enjoyed the way that they intended it to be. I love hearing it in her voice so that the tone comes across perfectly.
Tina Fey is a wonderful woman and this book made me laugh out loud several times. It is something I will go back and listen to again... and again.
I didn't know that much about Tina Fey, but her openness was refreshing, I also appreciated it was some dirty tell all about exploits or self promoting. Just honest and human.
Easy listen. More content and funnier than expected.
Ms. Fey sounded like she was talking to me, not reading a book.
Comparing traveling to relatives for Christmas with the trip to Bethlehem.
yes. Tina reads it herself & she adds the little tidbits of information that make this book so much more enjoyable. Shes has got a great voice.
Her talks about learning improv, going to the acting classes, being a working mother and the sarah palin part.
how entertaing she made the book, I looked forward to getting 5 minutes away from my kids to sneak in a little quite me time listening to Bossy Pants. She is so funny and its almost like i can see her facial expressions as she read the book.that is from the fact that 30 rock is my #1 favorite show.
yes, but being a working mother that wasnt able to happen. i heard it in small peices from 5 minutes to 1/2 hour at a time .
great book, wish she had more books.
I found myself laughing out loud through the beginning of the book. Maybe it started out "too funny" because I then had an expectation of a standup routine. It definitely happened to me again a few times during the rest of the book. But, this is a true autobiography, with all of life's ups and downs, insecurities and foibles. Tina Fey is such an intelligent honest person, you can't help but love her.
It is perfect that Tina Fey read this book.
Who doesn't love the Sarah Palin story?
If you need to laugh, get this audiobook!
This book is so funny - yet so insightful. One minute I was laughing hysterically, then wondering how Tina Fey kept it all together because she was so busy, and then walking down memory lane. A great book.
I thought this was a great insight into Tina's career and how she came to be.
No - this was my first but definitely not my last!
Sea Breeze and Comedy....
I'm a bibliophile since early childhood. Love speculative fiction, odd premises, mystery novels that teach about different places and times.
I really wanted to love this. It simply skittered off in a corner, less amusing than I hoped. Although it had some very honest giggles. Her description of the Evanston YMCA of the 80s was completely dead on right.
One never knows what one will get when the author narrates their own book. But when the author is Tina Fey, there is a great payoff as she applies her acerbic wit and sometimes self-deprecating style to the task. She makes great use of the audiobook format, as, for example, when playing extended clips of memorable SNL performances. In another case of using the format to its maximum potential, when talking about her famous portrayal of Sarah Palin she often drops into Palin's voice to amplify a joke or comment.
The book itself is rather scattershot, clearly not aiming to be a completely linear autobiography, though some interesting stories are related about her childhood and early career. It's also, contrary to the title, not really much about being a boss (though I did actually take away some valuable management philosophy based on, of all things, the "Yes, And" principle of improvisational comedy). What it is, always, is funny and enjoyable. Tina comes across very much as she does on '30 Rock' (though obviously not as over-the-top), which is, above all, likeable, as well as generous to her colleagues.
Perhaps the only negative I could identify is a bit too much discussion of whether or not she wants to have another child. But that's just my own bias and I wouldn't be surprised that to many, that might be among the most sincere and unguarded ruminations in the book.
I suspect many of her fans may have already read the print book (I have not) but hearing her tell it (which is how it comes across more than her simply 'narrating' it) was a real treat.
I would absolutely recommend this audiobook to a friend (in fact already have) - Tina Fey is hilarious and really brings her story to life.
It was extremely funny - had me laughing out loud the whole time.
well since it's a bio - Tina Fey
Absolutely laughed out loud, a LOT!
