This was a very funny book, and as a 30 Rock fan it was tons of fun to hear about how she came to be in the TV business and some of what went on behind the scenes as 30 Rock came into existence. So long as you're a Tina Fey fan, you'll enjoy this regardless what gender you are. I didn't feel like it was geared towards women hardly at all.
Her description of her life from awkward teen to awkward adult is pretty much a replica of my life, well except for the fame and success part. Loved it! Very entertaining!
Listened to Bossypants while driving to and from my daughter's home, a four-hour drive. The ride went so quickly, I actually sat in my driveway until I got to the end of the chapter. That about says it all!
I was expecting a funny, superficial book where Tina Fey takes some nice safe vignettes from her life and does little routines. Instead I got a very witty, self-deprecating look at the life of the incredibly talented and nice girl next door who made good. There's not a lot of dirt or snarkiness, the Palin section was fascinating and Tina memorably is all about how she (Tina) was the condescending one, but at the same time it reads as an honest description of her life by a person who appreciates that it's a lot like our life but now way better.
Tina Fey is not afraid to mock herself or anyone else. That is why I appreciated this book, she lambasts herself without any regard and that is, honestly, refreshing! She had me laughing out loud at one moment and crying the next. This is a great book for anyone, don't judge before you read, its worth every last inch! BRAVO!
I've listened to this wonderful audiobook 4 times already. Tina crafts every topic and joke superbly, and does a great job of giving credit to the talented people she has worked with over the years. I can't find the PDF, but won't let that affect an absolutely perfect 5 star rating.
...and so did my husband, who said he didn't want to listen to it. We were driving over to pick my car up from the shop, and I put it on. He was grumpy and said he didn't want to listen to anything (but that I could...he wouldn't mind). He was thinking about work and getting organized. In two minutes I heard muffled snickering coming from behind the steering wheel. It was the scene about the cruise. I was laughing hysterically... then he lost it too. Good all the way through.. just what she promised...really funny and very human. Nice to see someone so successful has kept her feet on the ground.
Oh, Tina Fey, you live up to your reputation as a smart, strong, witty HAM (of the metaphorical variety, not the swine variety). ;oD This book had me laughing out loud as I completed my morning jogs...I am sure people thought I was insane. The biggest asset, to me, is how she can make a point without making a point. By deflecting what you might be "expecting to hear next" with humor, it makes the point even funnier. Okay...one last thing...Piss Jugs! REALLY???? Ew!
So funny about everyday day topics kile boys, make-up, female issues, jobs, family. So interesting about behind the scenes info on SNL & 30Rock. So great that her narration is like she is just talking with you as a friend. So good!!!
