It was a good day when I realized I could combine my two hobbies- reading AND knitting. Audible has seen me through many projects!
It's as funny and as awesome as everyone will tell you it is. DOWNLOAD IT. You won't be sorry at all.
This book was written with the same jest and blunt honesty Tina Fey displays in her life as an actor, producer, writer, etc. It explores her origins and covers the topic of what it means to be a woman-especially with todays judgmental and fearful society. It is an insightful work, yet while covering these topics she clearly takes to heart, she allows one to laugh. Which isn't unhealthy. Laughter is a release, and can be healthy in a lot of situations that at first glance, might seem to serious. She is bravely covering these issues with a blunt honesty, and yet adding some jokes to lighten the mood and therefore actually help one digest the implications and truths. Tina Fey is a bright, insightful and light-hearted woman. Listening to this audiobook, with Fey as the reader of this life reflection, is a joy. We need more women like this, standing for what they believe in.
I'm an unapologetic fan of Tina Fey, so I was looking forward to this audiobook. It didn't disappoint, especially since she can deliver her writing better than anyone else. Funny stories of growing up as a bit of an outsider were mixed w/some sound advice on leadership and making it in the corporate world.
My only complaint? Too short. I could have listened to a few more hours of the thoughts rattling around in Fey's mind.
New grandpa. Married 35 great years. Drink Batch 19,Tsing Tao, and Bohemia. Read Card, King, Hobb, Sawyer, Sci-Fi, Historical Fiction.
I did not watch TF on Saturday Night live much, but I love 30 Rock. Parts of this book made me laugh and parts made me think. It was cool to get a behind the scene look at Second City, SNL, and 30 Rock. I also thought it was motivational. It is easy to see why TF is so successful. She works hard, is very intelligent and makes no excuses
Not for the easily offended or fans of Sarah Palin. (I've heard some of my male friends say it wasn't exactly their cup of tea either-- too many references to feminine hygiene.) No, there's not much plot... and it's not a master's course in management. It's a slightly raunchy girl's lunch with Tina Fey. Having listened to the audiobook read to me by Tina (I feel we are close personal friends now) I feel a little sorry for my purist friends who thought they should actually -read- the book. This is "laugh-until-diet-coke -squirts-out-your-nose" funny.
Most comedy skits/shows/ books by celebrities these days have too many political and personal lifestyle views that I do not agree with. This is brilliant material though. She sounds as if she is reading off a quick grocery list, as if in a race to finish it. I have actually had to rewind or use the slowdown setting quite a few times. BUT this is really very entertaining and I can't contain laughs while my IPod is in my ears (I have to pause during my morning workout so people won't look at me funny!), once you get over these little glitches. She's great with impersonations too. Take what you like, and leave the rest. THIS could be a classic.
Great book about her life, experiences and opinions. She is very honest about her thoughts and actions....thing we all think but would never admit to!! This is a very funny book. I highly recommend it.
I'd heard a lot about Tina Fey, but other than the ubiquitous clips of her Sarah Palin imitations, had managed never to see her on either SNL or 30 Rock. So I suppose a lot of the nuances were lost on me. There were parts that were hilarious but her narration was ultimately off-putting. She had a tendency to swallow words, especially in her asides, and often it was just corny. By the end of the book, I felt I had had enough Fey to last me for some time - and no interest to tune in to see more.
I have never laughed out loud so often while reading a book! Nor have I shared tidbits and whole paragraphs so often with friends or even nearby strangers!
Usually when i go for best seller, I get overwhelmed with the level of story telling.
Tina Fey is nice, and narrating her book is improving it, but far from BIG book.
