Tina has a pleasant, articulate voice which helped me to listen in. However, solid laughs were sparse for this guy from the old school.
An example of the problem with the book, musings without much comic content maybe more amusing to women.
I'd seen one movie and the Tina Fey skit on Sarah Palin
Right on the margin.
I was open minded in my listening expecting to have a lot of laughs. Tina was at her best me when she opened up on some critics who had written to her. The book would have been better if she had emphasized comedy rather than philosophy.
I'm a dedicated reader/listener. My tastes are very eclectic, and there's not much I don't like except horror and dull history.
I had just gotten out of the hospital after a grueling illness (gastrointestinal hemorrhage) and was exhausted, disoriented, and -- sadly enough, still on vacation. Supposedly having a great time. I couldn't even hold or concentrate on reading a book, so I decided to listen to Tina Fey. Memoirs are not usually my cup of tea, but this one was perfect. Soon I was laughing out loud, sitting alone, on my South Carolina porch, soaking up the healing sun. It wasn't the way I expected to spend my vacation audiobook time (walking the beach), but it certainly was just what I needed then! Thank you, Tina Fey, for making the world a fun place again!
I can't even pick what I loved best about this book; from start to finish it's superlative. I took it along with me on a road trip - the result was that it felt as if Tina Fey was sitting in the passenger seat just telling me all these amazing stories about her life (as only she can). More than once I had to pause and focus on my driving because I was laughing so hard.
I definitely recommend listening to this all at once if you can. Tina does a fantastic job of holding attention, so you might find yourself listening to it all at once even if you didn't plan to.
Tina is amazing, and I loved this book from start to finish as I've said. The one shortcoming (literally the only one) is that the audio sounds a little compressed; hence the 4 stars for Performance instead of 5. Once or twice I had to go back and listen again with the volume all the way up to catch what she said. It has nothing to do with Tina's style and everything to do with some inexplicably subpar recording practices here and there.
This book kept my attention and kept me laughing! I have the Kindle edition and the audio and I just love both. I recommend this book to all women who have a sense of humor and can appreciate the awkward stages of growing up and being an adult. She reads a little fast which is a bit distracting in the beginning, but I realized that's just because most narrators read at a snail's pace. Once you get into it, your brain speeds up and you begin to appreciate that you aren't being read to like you are in kindergarten. This is one of my top picks for sure!
Funny but not something I'd reread again.
Hmmm..not sure about that.
No this was a first for me.
I laughed here and there.
I teach American Literature and am the proud daddy of a 2 year old.
The fact that Tina Fey was reading/performing her own material.
She was funny, and just a bit sassier than I expected.
If you need to laugh, do yourself a favor and get this audiobook. However, I would not recommend trying to drink while you listen. You'll be laughing too hard.
Definitely! anyone who needs a laugh and just wants to hear the life struggles that another goes through this is book is for you! We listened to the audiobook in the car on a road trip with the family
Yes when she talked about juggling the SNL moonlighting job, with 30 Rock, and her child's birthday party and all were important to her. She worked so hard all the time yet maintained her humor and life balance. I found that inspiring!
I think Tina Fey is a great writer and I thought she did a great job reading for the audio book as well. I hope she writes another book in the future! Also, I'm a republican conservative and I still loved it so just because she is a hard core lib don't let that stop you. If it does quit being so closed minded! As you will see in this book we are all just people trying to make it in this world and take care of our family while having a few laughs along the way. Love you Tina we think you are awesome!!!!
I want to read books that take me to a "place and/or time" I've never been. On the other hand, I love reading about places where I HAVE been.
This was just too short. I didn't want it to end. This is THE only way to 'read' this book. Tina Fey is hilarious and a very good narrator. No one else could have done it as well. Great book for anyone who has had growing pains and horrendously embarrassing teenage moments. Doesn't that include us all!
This book was a wonderfully funny bio. I thoroughly enjoy Tina Fey. Read it! You won't be sorry.
