I loved the first book in the Joe Ledger series, "Patient Zero." This one is just not as good. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I used a credit to get this, but, I don't know, it's probably just a taste thing. I like weird, but perhaps "The Dragon Factory" is just a little too weird in the wrong way for me. Maybe I just liked the zombie plot of the first book better. Again, a taste thing.
However, I will definitely listen to the rest of the series, and am looking forward to doing so.
Ray Porter again does a masterful narration. He's definitely in the top echelon of storytellers.
Reading is my favorite past time.
I was told about this series by a friend and really didn't think that I would like it but am I so glad that I was wrong. At first I really thought the story was boring but as I got past chapter 10 I found myself getting more and more into. This is all action from beginning to end which normally I don't like but there was so much meat to the story that I found myself wondering what was going to come next. Normally, I can predict every step a book like this takes but not this one. The regular formula for action books was not followed at all. Thank you Johnathan for writing something that you truly felt for and sticking to the cookie mold. You can tell this is the kind of book that he would want to read himself instead of what is predictable. Also the narrator did a really good job in bringing this characters to life.
I loved the great action "scenes" in The Dragon Factory. However, the author is not ashamed of incorporating overused character outlines and story themes in this book. In places I was rolling my eyes at the obvious use of stereotypes. The bad guys are comicbook crazies and science fiction oddities. The good guys are strereotypical bad asses, not alot of depth in the characters. The story moves right along, however, and keeps you entertained right until the end. This author is very good at writing fighting scenes and battle scenes. The action is very detailed.
I would recommend it to a friend who doesn't have to pay premiun price for the book.
Ray Porter does an outstanding job of bringing this story to life. His different voices and accents continue to amaze me throughout the performance.
I do not know what you mean by a tag line.
you lose yourself
Top, loved his voice and attitude
the different voices are incredible and paint a picture in your mind of what the character should look like
No crying, I laughed and was amazed at the story line and what the characters were doing and able to achieve with gene manipulation.
This story is absolutely crazy...from the sick/evil scientist and his demented partner who wants to rid the world of every human race but the white race. To the twins who are just as sick and twisted as their father who wants to create and sale all types of mythical and extinct creatures. But then there is Mr. Church, Grace Cortland, Top, Bunny and the man himself, Joe Ledger. They are back to put a stop to this craziness and the journey to see if they will succeed before time runs out is what makes this book so exciting and intense.
I sure would, great story, and of course... Joe Ledger..
Would be hard to compare really, only comparison would be others in the series, and they are super.
Ray Porter's performances are top notch in my opinion, I love his narration and think he has nailed all of the people in the series!
Ray Porter read it exactly how Maberry's work sounds in my own head. Vivid and intense.
It is on par with the first Joe Ledger novel- Patient Zero. As a biologist, I usually can't buy into a lot of genetic manipulation plots because it is just so inaccurate. Maberry finds that perfect balance of real science and science fiction that puts his ideas right at the cusp of "That can't really happen" and "Holy sh*t, that's not that crazy an idea!"
Love the horror genre but read all kinds of stuff! I'm 40 something, a wife, mom and Project Manager for a large Construction Company.
I loved the fact that it was typical Joe Ledger (Jonathon Mayberry) with many of the same characters as the first book. The action and intensity was the same as the first book as well. These books are my guilty pleasure! I also pressed my husband to listen and now he loves them too! Waiting for the next one.....
Of course Joe Ledger! He is crazy, brave, loyal, unpredictible and most of all funny.
Yes and yes! You will forget you are listening to a book and become totally emersed in the story!
Love it, waiting for the next one
Story follow up was great. Continued the intensity of book one. Story is still far fetched, but author does a great job of taking reader down a believable path or thought. I enjoyed the tie into historical events.
I'll be honest. I'm enjoying these books. They are just packed full of action. I'll also agree with some other reviewers is that these were written more for teenagers but they are still fun for those of us above the age of 35. I think I may have been a little harsh on the narrator in the first book. When I analyzed the narration in this book, I noticed I was more bothered by the editing in a couple spots than the actual narrator. I have just started the 3rd book and look forward to just a very good action orientated book.
