Great story, but this review is mainly to say the Ray Porter is, hands down, among the best narrator in the business. Mastery of accents and tone are superb. HIs ability to switch between them within a dialogue leaves me in wonder.
Everything from the story line to the narrators take on everything.
I know the majority of people would say Joe Ledger because he is the main character. But my favorite is Bunny with his smart ass commits and his just all around personality makes him my favorite.
I love to read and listen to books. I teach and share my love with my teenager and I'd like to share that love with you.
I was expecting ZOMBIES. JONATHAN MABERRY is a master zombie world builder, but he crafts an equally horrific threat to humanity. If you thought that zombies being unleashed on the capital was bad, now Joe Ledger has to track down Pure Evil. Nazi Doctor throw-backs tinker with everything from the ideal human to Dr. Morrow's worst nightmare. No one is safe, but knowing Joe is on the job makes me feel better.
RAY PORTER is masterful in this complex world of accents and all levels of crazy. The key is that he captures Ledger's alpha huskiness with a light inflection to capture his playful nature. He breathes creepy, evil and psychotic into all the crazies that are trying to make sure the Extinction Clock reaches zero. MABERRY and PORTER bring you a modern-day War of the World experience. I expect that I'll continue the series on audio.
I've been writing software for over twenty years. Most of the books in my collection are science fiction or computer related materials.
Ray Porter *IS* Joe Ledger, period. I absolutely love Jonathan Mayberry's Joe Ledger novels! Ray is a fantastic narrator whom makes it extremely easy to tell the difference between all the various characters in Jonathans' stories. These are a must listen to if you love action stories!! Pick these up if you've not heard them and you won't regret it!
Hell Yes! Excellent action sequences AND character development. Rare in this type of genre. Love the characters. Intricate plot that is not predictable, nor confusing.
The Echo Team battle their way through the enemy infused Dragon Factory when Joe and Bunny reunite with the wounded Top. Top ask "What took you so long?" Bunny replies, "We had to stop off at a titty bar for a couple of beers."
Mr. Porter nails all the voices of the characters and brings out the sarcasm more than you could do by reading yourself. The women sound like women. The men sound like men and every character has a different and distinct voice.
Hell yes, Call into work sick good.
A worthy sequel to the series. Makes me want to read them all.
Joe's out to stop the human race from being annihilated, but first he has to discover that bit of information. The story seems to be a real puzzle looking for the bad guys and putting an end to their plans. Joe and his team are up against two groups of mad scientists in to genetic engineering, one for profit and perverse pleasure, the other to create the master race ending the rest of the races. It's a fast paced action thriller packed with intriguing characters sure to keep your interest.
Where's Book Three?
Until the very last minute. This whole series could be called The DMS Conspiracy Theory.
All of the little critters in the Dragon Factory made me happy - and damn scared (note Tin Foil Hat above)
TIN. FOIL. HAT.
I love Joe Ledger. This series could go on forever, as far as I'm concerned. As long as NO ONE in Echo Team gets hurt.
This is my second run in with Joe Ledger. The books are well done, the story never slows down. I enjoyed it. The final reveal was a little lame but I liked it. Joe Ledger is an American hero!

First Thought when Finished: The Dragon Factory by Jonathan Maberry was wicked smart and brutally twisty.
Read It File It: I am in love with the Joe Ledger! There I said it. It is probably best to get that out there and acknowledged. During the Dragon Factory, I was biting my lip, clicking my nails against the desk, and closing my eyes as things got tense. These books are such intense rides and this one was a little heartbreaking. I recommend these to any one who enjoys a good mystery with a little bit of fringe!
Narrated by: Ray Porter /Length: 16 hrs and 11 mins
Going to admit that it took 2 books for me to fall in love with Ray's voice for Joe but now I adore it. Sometimes it just takes a bit and then it clicks!
Final Thoughts: Bring on Book 3!
Ray Porter is by far THE BEST narrator I have ever listened to!!! Combined with Maberry's grasp of the written and spoken word, these two are a team supreme!!! Dragon factory has it all and makes you want to go back and listen to it again...
Combining action, adventure, scary science, world politics, witticisms, drama, passion and just some of the best one liner smart ass comments, Joe Ledger and Echo Team along with the rest of the DMS bring it together. Mr. Church and his patent "I have a friend in the industry..." Always evokes a smile...
Without ruining the book for the first timers; Joe and Grace's words and exchange at the end of the book move the mind, body and soul to action... Maberry is a genius at painting the scene with words!!!
