Love to listen to my favorite genres.
I am sitting stunned, feeling a sense of profound loss now that the story has ended. I wept at the ending because I wasn't done listening. My heart yearned for more and I feel as if I have lost a treasured family member.
Nick Podehl narrated in a way that took my breath away. He made voices that sounded like an entire group of narrators. I have heard some fantastic narrators, but none as good as he. He brought this story to life for me.
The book weaves through time, taking the reader on a journey that makes your heart bleed, your blood boil and your imagination take flight. It is fantasy pure and simple, but so in depth that I can imagine these tales really happened.
There are slow parts and annoying parts that while I listened I thought could have been left out. But now I see they were needed to make the story whole.
This has become my number one favorite book.
Excellent narrator. Great book leaving you wanting more while entertaining the whole time. Engrossing story. Great history and backstory motivating the book.
I was hesitant to listen to this book. How could it be better than his first? I thought. His first novel was brilliantly written. It was a slow, loving walk through a world of masterful design. This newest novel? This is a marathon of grace and action, wit and lore. It is what I want all books to be: intelligent, exceedingly well thought out, and lovingly crafted. I anxiously await his next in the series.
This book was better than the first book although it was soooo unrealistic. For pure fantasy, it was ok. I found myself listening to it throughout my day. There were large portions that seemed to drag and others that just didn't fit in, and then interesting in other parts. I think that it was much too long for the story. On a scale of 1 to 10, I can only give the books a 5 ... nothing exceptional and not something that I would highly recommend.
The story was good, but the it was too depressing in the slow parts. also it seems to host a variety of somewhat illogical strengths and fallacies of both men and women. I'm sorry but no matter how quick you are, a ten year old girl cant beat up someone twice her height and (in the real world probable just as fast). Its physically impossible without superpowers or magic. Also parts felt more like erotica than I cared to read. I'm reading high adventure, I don't think its relevant to have sensual exploration as a part of the story.
good performance, He cant pull of the main characters low voice very well though.
When I started the first audiobook I thought it was quite boring. It took a few hours of listening before it started getting interesting. After that I was hooked and couldn't stop, what a great story. I can't wait until the last in the series.
