Most memorable was when Lexi was giving birth. It was so sad
This book made me so sad! Death, incarceration, loss, anger...whew I need to listen to a happy book next!
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. The storyline was enthralling and depicted the true misery that a family experiences in this type of situation. The love story between Lexi and Zack took me back to teenage love - ah, there's nothing like it!
I liked her soothing voice that did a great job of switching between characters.
The most memorable character was, of course, the mother. I became quite annoyed with her changing drastically from the perfect mom to such a selfish and vindictive person. I feel the author carried that part of the story out for way too long. She put her long-suffering husband who obviously truly loved her through hell, and it didn't quite ring true because if you're a kind, loving person to begin with you don't become the person she became. There is some insight to this, though, when you find out more about her own mother.
That being said, I must add that I don't think any of us truly know how we would respond to losing a child. I feel like I would have to "check out" for a while, but not for six years... but, again, how could I know? This one is a tear-jerker, but at the end it is quite uplifting.
This book is such a great book for all generations to read and particularly pertinent for todays readers. It made me laugh and cry equally and I would recommend it to all. In fact Ive just purchased a hard copy to give to a friend as a gift!
It is not a "blood and guts" book but the story is so true that Im sure all who read it can apply the same situation to someone in their own family. If it was a movie I would give it a G15 years and over rating.
This is my granddaughter's picture! She is my love.
You will love the friendship between these characters. Even the teen's mother is wonderful! But when their mother breaks a promise the lives of her children and the girl everyone took into their lives suddenly changes. Heartbreak lasting for many years caused by a single night's bad choice.
The narration ruined this for me. There was no life to her voice at all even in happy situations. Kind of a downer to to listen to.
When I listened to this book it made me feel very sad. The narration, the storyline etc. It actually made me feel blue.
Yes, It will make you laugh & Cry! Couldn't put this one down!
All of them!
Just read it!
Hooked on Audible
I don't have the print version, but the narrator was excellent and, I'm sure, enhanced the entire experience. I don't think I could ever read this book and not remember the narration. Unforgettable!
It hit so close to home. It felt like this was something that could've happened to me or anyone I know. So many elements of this story felt real. On many levels, I could relate emotionally to this story. Such a tear-jerker. I read the reviews before reading, but I still cried so much, I went through half a box of tissues!!
It's a toss-up I loved Zack! But Lexi, Mia and Jude were just as good.
This was probably the most moving story I have encountered in a very long time, if ever. It was so touching, I had to re-tell it to family/friends. Whenever I just see the title, I get chills! Well done Kristin Hannah. I will not ever forget this book.
yes, I could not put it down
The terrible accident and how things finally turned out
She makes you feel like your right there!
Yes, I cried and cried but I loved every minute of it
deffinately buy this audio book
Say something about yourself!
Average book. I had difficulty connecting to any of the characters. The plot meandered too much and never built to anything. Predictable ending, which fell flat for me.
Much preferred the Winter Garden, which was such a memorable book.
Awesome, wonderful, spellbinding, I could go on and on. I loved this to the point that I wished my daily commute was longer. The characters came to life so much that I could visualize them in my mind and that is a big selling point for me. Loved Kathleen McInerney as well - she did a great job.
I had stopped reading Kristin Hannah a few years back as my preference is to find a read without vulgar language.
Very, very pleased with this one. Wish I could find another one by her that was this good!
