I Love to listen to books more often than reading. Audible gets me through the day and night more especially when I'm working !
Thank God for Eva ! This was an emotional listen but one with an educational value that ALL teens should know if you listen to this book be prepared for different emotions that may come. This was my first listen from this author but it won't be my last.
After reading and loving The Nightingale, I was eager to read another book by Kristin Hannah. I was very disappointed in both the writing and the story. Without dropping a spoiler, the story was predictable and unimaginative. As for the writing, it bears no resemblance to the detail and nuance of The Nightingale. I remember thinking if I heard the description "pink bow lips" one more time, I might have to quit listening. Also, how many times do you need to use the phrase "he talked to strand of hair behind her ear." Maybe my expectations were just too high based on The Nightingale.
wow. phenomenal story of motherhood, loss, forgiveness. master storyteller and perfect reader. highly recommended, but keep the tissues nearby. spellbinding pageturner.
I had just finished The Nightingale and I saw there were so many great reviews for Kristin Hannah's other books. I decided on this one. Obviously the story is nothing like The Nightingale, but it was so well done I thought I would check out some other works from this author. I was really disappointed. This was a time killer and I couldn't wait for it to be over. The self-righteous Jude was annoying even through to the end. The whiny voice of Mia by the narrator grated. Predictable storyline. Just OK overall. Not my type of book. Apparently there's a big following for this author, but I won't be reading any of her other books.
This is the second book I've 'read' by Kristin Hannah, and I enjoyed the story, although there were a few overly predictable elements that impacted my rating. It wasn't as complex and intriguing as Winter Garden, but overall it was easy to read in spite of the sad situations of the characters.
love it, listened to it 2x, will probably listen to it again.
Memorable moment is when they all became a family again and remembering what was good despite the tragedy that had taken place.
I have just discovered Ms. Hannah's work. Her character development is superb, realistic and engaging.
Thank you for the ride.
I'm on to another one of her creations.
