I like the Davenport stories but this one dragged on a bit, and had a side story that did not mesh well with the overall story
No surprises at the end - everything ties up as expected
performed in character
no. it was long enough
Too many 'cop' cliches; eye-rolling machismo; formulaic and derivative, mines heavily from the 'Boston Police Drama' genre; unlikable main characters; unfunny attempts at humor.
I'd have to gut-renovate this novel entirely, leaving the bones but remodeling the characters and settings. I'd take it out of the cliched world of 'cop drama' (YAWN) and nudge it over to the 'psychological thriller' realm. Good story, but the execution was predictable and grating at times.
I cringed my way through this book. I'm sorry, because there seem to be a number of devoted fans out there, but this 'tough lady cop' drama just wasn't for me. I don't care for pat, snarky one-liners from one-dimensional characters. I don't care for 'Go ahead, make my day' machismo. I don't care for 'Jekyll and Hyde' style, mentally-ill bad guys.
This story is good underneath all the gimmicky cop talk, but I just can't get past the gimmicky cop stuff enough to enjoy it.
This was a great listen. I was on edge to the very end, fully expecting a different outcome. The last few chapters just kept twisting and turning; I loved the way Lisa just dribbled the full story out. I had so much fun trying to second guess the plot. Once the ending was clear, I thought "Well of course that was how it happened". What fun!
Yes. I love audio books.
It kept me guessing throught the whole story.
They brought the characters to life.
The only thing I didnt like was how it kept saying over and over "All I want for christmas was my two front teeth". Extreme overkill on that phrase.
This book is wonderful. So much not said until the right moment. When you think it's over, it's just starting. Amazingly entertaining. A must listen to or read.
I am ADDICTED to audio books. My first listen was Catch Me if You Can by SEP. I love listening to Anna Fields and miss her dearly.
Interesting twists to an interesting story. Great narrator.
Yes.....kept me guessing.
Their skills bring the characters to life.
Great book!! Great narrators!! I could not put this book down. It's my first book by Lisa Gardner and look forward to more. The plot is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing. Each time you think you know what is going to happen something changes.
LOVE, love, love the narrators! Narrators make all the difference in the world to an audiobook. So grateful for good ones!
This was the first time I have listened to a Lisa Gardner novel. I enjoyed it so much that am going to download another as soon as I am finished with this review. She weaves an incredibly detailed story. I loved that I couldn't guess what was going to happen next nor could I judge any of the characters because my persception of them was ever-changing as the plot unfolded. An excellent listen!!!
The narrators were both good, however, the person who read for Det. D.D. Warren had a wonderful and commanding voice.
I Love You More - But you'll never guess how far I'll go to prove it!
Keep up the great works Lisa Gardner!
This is my second book of Lisa Gardner's and I am a true fan, cannot wait to read more. I read "Catch Me" first, and that was brilliant! And this one did not disappoint. It's not a matter or whodunit, but why did she do it? But of course, the plot will take some twists and turns, and keep you guessing about 3/4 of the way through. The end begins to slow in terms of any major twists, but the suspense continues!
