No. I have enjoyed previous Night Huntress novels greatly. This one is much different. It seems the plot, clues, and action only take up about 1/4 of the novel. The rest is super mushy monologue from the main character. I have never skipped pages in a book or walked away from one without finding out how it ends regardless of how bad it was, however, this one sorely tempts me.
So far it has a great plot. It just could have more incidents that are linked to that plot rather than sappy love scenes or monologues.
I think Tavia Gilbert nailed this performance. With all the mushyness in it it couldn't have been easy but she did a fantastic job.
Almost a year ago, I had amassed credits on my account and found a few books to use them up and close my account. One of them was the first book in this series. My 17-year old daughter and I listened to that book late this summer while traveling and I had to rejoin Audible just to get the entire series. The sex scenes can be a bit much, but that would be my only complaint. This series is addictive. We blasted through 5 books in a few weeks and were anxiously awaiting the next credits.
The story: The characters are believable and engaging. They are dynamic. The plots are interesting and fast-moving with just enough twists to keep a sharp mind attentive. The sex scenes are believable and fairly graphic (for my 17-year old, but we openly discuss such things so I was okay with it.) One big caveat: Go to her website to get the reading order. I believe that after book 3, you need to switch to the "Night Huntress World" series before reading books 4 and 5. Double check that, I'm going from memory.
The performance: The reader was FANTASTIC. She really brought the characters to life. She made the action scenes and scenes with emotion really shine. I've since gone looking for other things that she reads.
If another installment of this series came available, it would jump to the top of my wish list.
fav book out of the series, scenes of kat and vlad are hilarious, tavia gilbert does a great job bring the charters to life.
LOVED IT! Vlad & Kat had my Favorite Comic Exchange in this one
(Cat)...I whirled around to gape at what was left of the ghoul. His body pitched forward on the driveway, nothing but a smouldering mess left where his head had been.
Much slower, I turned around to see Vlad examining his fingernails as if his hands weren't still ablaze in the flames that had blasted the ghouls head off moments before.
"What the hell was that?!" I gasped.
"Premature inflamulation." He replied. "Happens sometimes. Very embarrasing, I don't like to talk about it."
Oh, did I forget to mention Chapter 21? Just as erotic as the infamous Chapter 32 in One Foot in the Grave. The roles are reversed tho, with Cat as the Dominant. Very nice.
I listened to all the Night Huntress books and they are all great! This one was especially fun to see Cat come into more of her powers. Definitely recommend!
I am thrilled with Jeaniene Frost's books and I cant seem to get enough of them.. The narrater Tavia Gilbert does a fabulous job of making you feel like you are sitting and watching a movie not listening to a book. I highly recommend the Night Huntress World and The Night Huntress Series. Just love them. A very satisfied listener.. :)
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
I've listened to this whole series. I love this series and this book is the best of the 5. It leaves me waiting impatiently for the next book in the series. As soon as I finished listening to the series I started all over again because I liked it so much. I just love the relationship between Cat and Bones and it really seems more mature in this book. Bones aand Cat are as hot and sexy as ever. A supernatural fantasy series relationship hasn't drawn me in so much since I listened to the Vampire Academy Series. This series made me laugh out loud and cry too. This is a great series and I highly recommend it.
I like Jack Reacher style characters regardless of setting. Put them in outer space, in modern America, in a military setting, on an alien planet... no worries. Book has non moralistic vigilante-justice? Sign me up! (oh, I read urban fantasy, soft and hard sci-fi, trashy vampire and zombie novels too)
This is the 3rd book set in this world that I've listened to in audio format - this is the first time I've been a bit "annoyed" with the narrator's "dramatization" of certain events, particularly fight and sex scenes. The narrator gets too excited, and her voice gets too high and squealy to make these scenes sound natural. Outside of these tense moments, however, the narration was fine and the characters are very distinctly read.
There was a "family" thread to the story which I think was there to bring us closer to Cat, but I didn't like it. I don't read vampire romance novels for touchy-feely family reunion type stuff, I read it for the butt-kicking (and can put up with all the porn if I have to). This one didn't have a lot of porn though, really, just one scene that was too long, the rest were quick and non-detailed.
There were a handful of pretty funny scenes/lines which I enjoyed, and Vlad was fun, but overall I think this one is the second weakest of the 7 books set in this world (book 3 of the series was ridiculous).
Loved this as much as I love all in the series. Have listened to most of them two times. Promise you will enjoy.
I have read the first four books in this series, and absolutely LOVE them!!!! I decided to get the audiobook because time to read has been in short supply. Unfortunately, this is the first time I have been disappointed in a narration. The British accent, I felt, was horrible, and completely ruined my picture of a handsome, sexy, cool and confident Bones. I had to stop not even 10 minutes in, I simply couldn't listen any more :-( While I am sure I will love this book as much as the others, I will be deleting this audiobook from my Itunes library and buying the paper copy instead!!
