This novel was unbearable for me: simplistic plot, painfully dopey voice characterizations (the voice used for Peabody was cringe-inducing: where exactly is Peabody supposed to be from?) and, as has been pointed out by others, absolutely no thought given to the "50 years in the future" aspect. Skip it. Read some Elmore Leonard instead.
As all J.D. Robb books, a good basic listen but this one drags on a bit--long narratives going on and on....where you're telling your book "ok, I get the point already--move on!"
Good enough derring-do. But, oh my. The lectures. Instead of showing the reader that cops are fabulous, wonderful, brave, moral creatures, the author tells us that. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ....I won't be selecting another by this author.

Such an energizing read. So hard to stop listening, especially with such an amazing Narrator as Susan Ericksen is. J.D. Robb's "in Death" Series has made a marathon listener out of me. This series is the best addiction I have ever had. I have finished the series and I am finding it very difficult to find another series to listen to that can catch my attention as this series has. I loved each and every book in this series.
So much Talent: J.D. Robb, Susan Ericksen, the perfect compliment to each other. I so look forward to the next book in this Series.
What I love about the "in death" series is the stories are compelling and hold my interest, but the personal relationships that evolve with time is probably what keeps me coming back for more. The story about corruption on the police force is riveting alone, but add the danger for Peabody and Dallas and you have a "cannot put it down listen". Want more from Eve and the gang!
I love this author and narrator. This story was especially good. Some of her stories can overdo the sex scenes - this was just the right mix - and was none-stop action. I am embarrassed to say that I listened to the entire second half in one evening (some of it driving). I could not put it down.
