This book is now in my top 3 of the series. Loved watching the team work "undercover". I enjoyed the small part where Peabody is "primary" giving Eve orders!
As always Susan Ericksen was fabulous!
The 'In Death' series is definitely one of my favorites, greatly due to the wonderful narrative efforts of Susan Ericksen. She makes the characters jump off the page and straight into your head. I see very vividly - Eve, Peabody, Roarke, McNab and even the cat, in my mind when she's telling each story. Treachery in Death is no exception. J D changeed her M. O. a bit and gave us the villians right away. That was certainly a twist and added great depth to this installment. I love seeing Peabody grow and the familiar cast of characters are always great to come back to. This is one that shouldn't be missed. Looking forward to the next one already.
Treachery is a great listnen; I had difficulty turning it off and I didn't want it to end.
It is in the top three of the series.
I agree....Susan Erikson is a master of voices and she really makes the characters come to life for me. Being a linguist helps her in her craft and oh my, she is good at her craft.
The book is superb. I can't wait for NY2Dallas
Don't often review but appreciate those who do and want to save someone a bad read. Think I got this book on a $5 sale and that was too much. Yes, this sounds harsh but the characters, storyline and narrator are ANNOYING! I'm a big fan of Michael Connelly and was looking for a new series - this is not it and don't think I can even finish this book - something I've never done before, and I've listened to hundreds of audio books.
Don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Trip's cool though. Use Audible to make gym-training sane... And rip my imagination.
Oh J.D., how dear is cop-mission to a lady-officer besotted with truth, dedication, goodness, and virtue? . How many times will you have her preach these dear things at us to separate a couple of gooey sex scenes kidnapped from treacly bodice-busters? "Treachery In Death" is a gaggle of speeches held together by a chicken-wire of police-procedure.
I never listened to J.D. Robb before this one came on sale. Nope, never will again. It's said that Robb is a pseudonym for a writer with a big-foot brand name. Whoa, there's a brand to avoid. As for Susan Ericksen… Is that the way she thinks men sound? Maybe she gets better when NOT acting out what bores like the cast on a secondary-school stage performing a "story" written by a team-assignment to a junior level English class. Oh, and there's a tediously predictable car-fight thrown in to make credibility go PHWANG! with the subtlety of a piano pushed from a balcony.
Nope, didn't like it. Should have been named, "Treacle In Death". No wonder it went into the Audible remainder bin.
This is one of the best in the series. The plot was exciting, suspenseful and gripping.
This narrator is absolutely the BEST! I am amazed at how much I get into it and always know who is speaking. Her breadth of voices is astounding.
Yes, this is an excellent installment!
Some action but too much talking, preaching, and mutual admiration between the characters.
She's an excellent reader and interpreter of the story.
boredom and impatience
This is the third that I have listened to in the "in Death" series. So far, this seems to be the story with the fewest "steamy" blah-blahs between Roarke and Eve... which is fine with me. >;-) I also liked the increased roles of other characters surrounding the main ones and the development of the "evil" bad girl. Some of the futuristic technology (remember, this is 50 years into the future) was a bit too "convenient" to bolster the storyline, but it was forgivable. I thought the over and over "cannonizing" of cops was a bit over the top but, again, not overly annoying.
Regarding Susan's read... as always, I think she is really good and I love the different voices- especially Peabody and the chief. However, it was absolutely noticable how much slower she read this story... why?? I tried to use the player's faster playback mode, but made her sound like a chipmonk. It didn't "drive me crazy", but I agree with others that she should speed it up to her pace of the others.
Addicted to audio books, I average 6 to 7 per month. I am never without my IPod even when I sleep LOL! Favorite author Lisa Gardner
J.D. Robb and narrator Susan Ericksen continue to amaze me!! With each and every "In Death" book Robb continuously keeps your attention and is so consistent with involving most if not all of the main characters. The evolution of the characters is so much fun! Susan Ericksen never falters with the voices of the characters. It amazes me how perfect she becomes each one! Fantastic!!!
