I don't usually do this but this book was so good that I decided to write a review. The story was moving, held my attention and left me wanting more when it was over!
I really enjoyed listening to this book and can't wait for the sequel! I would have preferred a male & female reader but I still enjoyed it a lot.
The story line was great. Unexpected for a witch tale. Usually don't like vampire stories but this was good added to a witch tale ....I need to read the next book!!
It reminded me of "The Historian" meets "Twilight". However, I really wanted more when it ended. I would LOVE a sequel!
I listen to roughly fifty novels a year, and I really enjoyed listening to this one. The pace is a bit slow at times as the author develops characters and explains backstory, but it quickens in the final third of the book. The ending is a real cliffhanger, but sets up the second book impeccably. I'm hooked....
This is my first review and I should first say I have been looking for something that would sweep me away like Twilight did, and I think I found it. There were so many parallels, but it was way more intellectual with all the history intertwined in it. The yoga scene was a bit strange but it reminded me of the baseball scene in Twilight (SO random) and I already have thoughts about who would play Matthew if this book ever became a movie. Thanks Deborah Harkness for an amazing read. The narration and story were so good, I actually started looking forward to my long commute to work (complete with a to-go mug of coffee) so I could indulge in this story. Can't wait for the next book!
I totally loved the book. I loved the mix of witches and vampires and demons. The historical discovery was interesting as well. The only problem is it didn't really end- I can't wait for the sequel to see where it goes!
I am not into romance novels at all, and so with this book I had a few eye rolls and hurumphs but all in all the story is solid, I like the premise and yes at times it goes a bit to slow and at other times zooms forward. I am not into the whole vampire craze but in this particular book it works... at least in my opinion. The romance wasn't really over the top, but I hate when writers make woman out to be devoted dogs and there were at least 2 spots that my eye rolls were because of that...
All in all I liked it and will listen to the next installment... so if the writer is reading this... GET BUSY MISSY!!! (I'm pretty old so I say that confidently...LOL)
I liked this book. The characters were believable and the story was interesting and enjoyable, but I hate to be left hanging around waiting for the story to finish while the writer writes another book. If I had known it was the first in a series yet to be written, I would have waited to listen to it because it really has an ending that leaves the reader wondering what happened. By the time the next book is available, I may or may not be interested in continuing the story because it is difficult to maintain the story line and its characters for a long period of time. So if , like me, you do not like to be left with eternal wondering, don't get the book until the others are written and available. Interesting premise about vampires and witches and demons and their lives.
