"Complex world with several powerful, rival groups struggling to live together or to conquer one another."
This is a tale any fantasy fan can enjoy, and I believe it has special appeal to young adult readers. Many main characters are young themselves just working out their own adult roles in their larger societies while navigating the changes and stresses in their changing family relationships. Some go sadly wrong. Other out comes are good, but are they worth the costs?
I am a diehard Mercedes Lackey fan, which is why I initially picked this up. I love how she and Andre Norton have blended their different styles. The performance is fun and varied. A great read!
Thoroughly enjoyable story. Great for listening in the car, as the names & places were easy to remember & follow.
The issue I had with the narrator was the choice of voice for the young dragon. When he was young, the little boy's voice was fine but as the book progressed & the war was raging, it became silly. He still sounded like an 8 year old.
I do want to listen to the next book in the series.
Yes. I love this type of book. Mythical Creatures, Magic Powers, and only subtle romantic innuendo.
The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings. All the "Mythical Creatures & beings". A great adventure.
The narrator makes this such a joy. You don't even have to guess which character she is being after the 1st or 2nd time she becomes them. She is extremely versatile with her voice. Also, the story flowed without hesitation. Much like the story tellers of old (before most people could read).
Enter a world of magic, mystery, and conflict.
This is a "Must" to add to your library.
Welcome to a world of magic where the humans are slaves. The elves control everything within their domain. The half-breeds are feared by the elves (for good reason) and the dragons are in hiding. This is a world where unicorns exist although they're called one-horns and are one of the most dangerous animals of all. It's a challenging world where the different aspects of 'humanity' are understandable and heartbreaking. The heroine is a wonderful character I loved to cheer for.
I looked forward to what kind of characters was going to come along next.
When everyone realized they could not just sit and do nothing, they had to make a change for a better future.
No, I liked knowing that I could make this story last. Didn't want it to end.
I thought there would be a different ending, wonder if there will be a continuing book. I would get it if there was.
And book I had read many years ago. I enjoyed in then and it was nice to return to the story in audible formate
Good ending. Redemption. Revenge. Hope.
Audio always bring book to life. And can be heard in the car on my commute
