At the top of my listening list.
The book is like reading a Carl Hiassan novel...a romping good time while solving a mystery.
It makes perfect sense that the Grim Reaper would be a smart-mouthed woman working as a PI and totally addicted to coffee and helping people deal with their deaths...however unconventional that approach might be.
You laugh, you cry and you say...I did that
You should read the entire series.
This book is for people who love the quirky, fanciful type of heroine and can laugh with someone who happily owns her ADD personality. She is a private detective, with Cookie, the best side kick since Oberon, (see Kevin Hern). Darynda Jones writes with a superior wit, delivered to us by the excellent actor, Lorelei King. There is a mystery to be solved, family issues to be dealt with, and a very sexy love interest. Oh sure, there are other guys in her life, fun for her to interact with, but make no mistake, Reyes is the metal to her magnet and sparks fly! I like the idea of woman who may be beautiful, but it's really not remarked on much. Charlie certainly doesn't pay any attention to her looks, her older sister, Gema, is the pretty one. Her real beauty is from within and that's what the most beautiful man alive fell for, when she smiled at him, and he then waited centuries for her to be born. And of course the best part, you laugh from beginning to the end. I can't wait to read the next book...tomorrow....again.
Charley is witty, adhd and a bad ass. I love the series I finished book 1, 2 and 3 in succession. The series is as good as Harrison, Briggs, Butcher and Harris. The reader, Lorelei king also read Briggs's Mercy. She is an outstanding reader. Enjoy!
Hi, I am a voracious reader with a wide range of tastes.
Well I have listened to hundreds so near the middle.
My extreme reaction was to the fact that Charlie seems to fall in love with a guy who when she first met him almost raped her and has never treated her kindly at all, but yet she loves him because he is hot. He is a creepy stalker and abusive. What kind of message is this for women? It is ok if a guy sexually assaulted you and treats you like garbage, you can change him with love? I am not at all happy with this, it ruined the book for me which besides her relationship was fun.
I would not like any young women who have never been in a healthy relationship to read this and get the idea abusive men just need love.
The entire series is different and fun. Lorelei is great with the characters. They are very likable and you want to continue with the series to see what will happen. Keep these stories coming.
The upside to this book is hearing Lorelei King again and the supernatural set up had potential, but the plot really revolved around Charley's obsession with a guy that molested and threatened to rape her when she was 15. Not Cool. So all of the "romance" made me gag and squirm uncomfortably.
I'm not sure if I will read any more of this series - if I do it will be because Lorelei King is my favorite narrator.
No, just from this author.
Gag? And teach girls that rape and being held against your will isn't sexy.
The narrator was sooo Good. I loved the main character Charley and she was so funny all of her little comments to herself were so right on and her interactions with her next door neighbor was always delightful. These things were just a bonus to the great storyline
I was comparing the book to Sue Grafton novels while listening, only because they both have female heroines. However, Lindsey and Charley are very different
This is my first, however since then I have listened to two others, which I enjoyed equally as much.
I did and there where times when I sat in my car and kept listening, when it was time to stop.
I don't read paranormal, I tried this because of a sale on the website, I am so glad I did.
Sexy, Funny, suspenseful
Rayes Farrow. the first time he visited charley.
I love Cookie.
Yes. There are times I just busted out laughing.
I am so glad I found this series it is truly one of my favorites. Thank you
The characters were interesting and well thought out
over the top
I loved the intrigue surrounding "the big bad"
