I like realistic books that stretch the truth and the laws of physics...and also emotionally resonant narration that doesn't suck.
At first I was pleased enough with this story, but then half way through I gave it up. The plot was laid out in a strangely scattered way that didn't do much for the tension building element of a mystery. There were lots of jokes and similes that really fell flat. There were some pretty sketchy plot devices. And then there was the sex scene which happened all of a sudden between a woman and a ghost, when the woman had been in mid conversation with like four people who were forced to stand there and watch as all the very intimate acts happened right in front of them, which was just repulsive for some reason. I thought the central concepts were cool and could have really worked. This would have been fun if it had been done with more skill. After I put it down, all I was left with was the impression of a main character who told lots of jokes, about 20% of which landed, and who never really had her personality expounded on much more than that, and lots of events in her life which seemed kind of unrelated.
I love the humor in these stories. The characters are so much fun.
I love this narrator. She is always a pleasure to listen to.
I have two rescue dogs. One Scottish born husband. And a love of books that goes back to childhood and bookmobiles!
I listened to the snippet on Audible.com hoping it would deter me. But no, because of Lorelei King's narration of Darynda Jones' words. Now I am doomed to another series because they left me wanting to know what happens to her and her vaporous boyfriend.
"Her" was Charley Davidson; PI and a not so "grim reaper". In this book, she had to help 3 dead lawyers solve their case so they could "pass over". The "vaporous boyfriend" was there when she was born and then again whenever her life had been in danger, as well as in her vivid dreams.
Charley's retired father was cop. Uncle Bob was still on the force. She has been helping them since she was 5 with her ability to speak to the dead. I loved her mind, heart...oh, lots of things, especially her wit which carried me through the rough parts.
Would I recommend this book? You bet your sweet bibby I would to anyone who likes good mysteries written with good humor! It was well worth my Audible.com credit!
Not really. The story isn't too bad but why is everyone in the story drop dead sexy? Jeez, has Charlie ever met anyone that didn't make her swoon?
Sure, the character of Charlie had great potential, just stop trying to be Fifty Shades of Grey.
I did not read the print version however I would consider audio books better due to the ability to have a narrator read and you are able to get a different picture in your mind of the story.
The love scenes were very well written and narrated. The suspense was very well delivered as well.
First listen from this author and i will be purchasing the whole series.
Yes i had to control myself and not listen to it at work lol
Absolutely! I love Lorelei King's voice and the story was fun and perfectly paced.
I would have to say when Charley visited Rocket. I loved how he told she never kept up and that "he" should be here.
Her voice and timing lent a depth to the book that just reading the story would not have done.
Yes. As I didn't that much time at once, I listened on my way to/from work and at lunch time.
I loved all the quotes at the beginning of the chapters.
I enjoy gardening, crochet, cross stitch and listening to audiobooks in the shade.
She has sexual situations with the son of Satan. Really, this is so not what I thought this would be. I thought it would be a light hearted book. But realized this is not for a Christian.
The snarky sarcasm and the sense of humor! The least ? I had to get the second book!
Nothing it was a perfect set-up for the subsequent books !!!
I LOVE HER !!! She nails every character !!!
Theres six books, it would have to be epic from the start.
Its fun, the narrator is FANTASTIC, its an easy listen and a great way to forget that you are driving 500+ miles.
By far the best book/ series! The combination of Darynda Jones and Lorelei King made the book 5 stars. I'm just sad it's over and I read all 6 books in the series
