Married, middle-age, owner of 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a messy house.
I bought all 3 books thinking it was a trilogy, but no, there are more. Well, there had better be more! It's a complicated love story that is not hard to follow, with a really nice twist at the end of book 3. It has literally "laugh out loud" sections, and a few sad places. There is a constant flow of sarcasm, which is how Charley deals with her life. There are family members that start out flat, but end up being very interesting. There are friends that I'd like to meet in person. The best and worst part, though, is even though I've started listening to another book, I can't quit thinking about this series.
This is a book about a woman learning about herself, understanding her talents, and figuring out what is important. The man who loves her is difficult for her to love back. She is stubborn and prone to sudden decisions, making it hard for her family and friends to protect her. I love this story!
Lorelei King is a truly talented narrator, and I hope she continues to read the series. As much as she has enjoyed the first 3, I expect she will find a way. Her timing is excellent, and she seems to understand the characters, so that it feels like a performance rather than just a reading.
I'm looking forward to listening to this book many more times.
This is one of the best books I have read.
Dark Angels series by Keri Arthur because both cover the world of the reapers although in completely different ways. First Grave on the Right and Darkness Unbound (Dark Angels) are books that you can't put down.
Lorelei is a great narrator. I have read several books narrated by her and enjoy the inflection she adds.
I laughed and cried through this book, which is one of the reasons I couldn't put it down....it just kept pulling me in.
I also loved the next two books in the series and cannot wait for another.
Since I'm on the third audio book in this series in two days, I can truly say this is one of the best in urban or paranormal fantasy. The author's sense of humor is amazing and the character's "voice" is strong and clear. The wit, humour and mystery is unique and Lorelei King, perfect!
I bought this book on a special with two credits for the entire series. Good move, Audible. If you want to laugh and listen to a creative, unique story without all the "formula" writing, listen to this one and the next and the next. I am a new, true fan of this author and look forward to future books in this series.
I love hearing about all the t-shirts and bumper stickers. The grim reaper is very funny and she is tough and smart and down to earth. She is a private detective who happens to be the grim reaper and has kooky relationships with her family, friends and the son of Satan.
I love Stephanie Plum and listening this this book was like "Janet had to have written this!"
I googled and did research and nope I was wrong. So now I have another love and can't wait to listen to the next one.
Any Stephanie Plum book
I can hear everyone and relate.
The ending left me wanting more
Out of 10 about an 8
The freaky twist of the main characters ability.
Well, hard to say when their are so many. I think it's funny when she's trying to talk to a dead person with live people around.
When she found out her lover spirit dude was a real live person.
Great bath / beach read. Lots of sarcasm. Lots of sexy romance. Lots of action. Fans of Janet Evanovich, Sophie Kinsella or Nora Roberts will fall in love with Charley Davidson.
I like all the characters! But if I have to pick one I think I would have to say Charlie!
I was first introduced to her performances while listening to Janet Evonivich. She is very easy to listen to. Some of the other performances by other people are not as easy to understand. Her voice is easy on the ears, not to high pitched and not to low pitched. Her inflections in her voice make it easy to listen to her. I do hope that, that makes since. ?!
It did not make me laugh or cry,but it did make me, not want to stop listening to the book.
Love the story line ,the characters that Darynda Jones has written about are just great. Almost makes me think of them as being real people! And with the story being read by Lorelie King, just makes it just that more fun to listen to.
Storyline is weak and predictable. There were a couple of humorous phrases/scenes that were not attributed to bumper stickers or t-shirts, but there were no belly laughs. This is one of those books that would benefit from a good abridging - would have been 100% better had the painfully detailed sex scenes been cut. Darynda would do well to simply write "they boinked" and then pay more attention to creating mystery and adding a bit of suspense.
Not turned me off the genre, but I'll certainly ask questions about whether the next book of Darynda's I consider is stuffed full on 'nothing-to-do-with-the-story' sex scenes.
I like Lorelei King's vocal characterizations. She is one of my favorite readers.
This may sound a bit off the wall, but, yes! I appreciate that it contains no political bashings! That is very much appreciated!
If you enjoy Sookie Stackhouse, Molly Harper's werewolf books and Jeaniene Frost's grave series, you should enjoy this too!
