Im a 45yr old Small Business owner. Married for 22 years and mom of 2 boys 14 and 12. I love supernatural book. If its got Vampires, ware creatures, fairies, etc I like it.
I have been waiting for over a year for this book to come out and answer all my questions. I absolutely love this book. I have listened to it once and plan on reading it on my nook and listening again. The twists and turns keep you guessing to the end. There are still some things that will leave you curious but not to the maddening point. I feel the wrap up put a bow on it was perfect. Every time I though I had it figured out, some new twist would come up and through my theory out the window. Enjoy everyone. Your in for a wild ride.
This book was a great conclusion to the Fever series. It was nice to see more of the Immortal Highlanders as well. While there were some things that were left unsaid, knowing that the author is going to have a new series in the same universe makes it so I don't mind. Mac's story is nicely wrapped up.
Excellent. I loved the twists and turns, Can't wait for the next book. The voices were perfect also. Can't stand to hear valley girl or southern belle readers so this reading was not a let down in any way. It's a good thing this book was advertised though. I never would have been looking for it. 2 years is too long to wait for any book. I read a book everyday. This author's books take too long for release. I like to stick with authors who can keep up with my constant need to read.
I can't listen fast enough...intense-deep-you have to pay attention - you can't get distracted or you will get lost - i don't want it to end
I did not like this book for reasons that I am mostly to blame for. (1) I did not know this was part of a series, and this book is not the beginning -- should have researched it better. (2) I bought it based on the reviews -- sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. (3) I wanted to try a new genre -- I like sci-fi, but this was crazy SCI-FI. (4) Lastly, I loved Paul Gigante (the male narrator) in 'John Adams' -- well, he's a long way from 1776 in this creation.
I realize now that most people reading (listening to) this book are already fans of the genre and understand the genre. I did not and that was probably the biggest problem for me.
I only made it through 30 minutes of the book. At about the 15 minute mark, I found myself talking outloud, mocking the characters. It was extremely confusing and the woman is absolutely hysterical (and not in a funny way). She whines! The entire time! The book opens with this woman trying to bring some man (? or creature -- it wasn't clear) back to life by doing really ridiculous things like "stuffing his entrails back in." I was ironing pants while listening, and soon, I started offering suggestions on how she could revive this man/creature. (My husband thought it was pretty funny.)
Since the first 30 minutes were spent with this obnoxious woman whining about why she couldn't bring this...thing back to life (a thing she had apparently just killed and a thing she apparently loved -- talk about cognitive dissonance) by the time I finished ironing my slacks, I had to kill "it."
So, if you are new to this genre, you might want to consider something else -- I wish I had.
Let me first say the narrators totally make this book. I really did not like the original narrator for this series but I was able to perserve. Ms. Ross put just enough southern accent in the lead without being overbearing and Mr. Gigante can purr in my ear anytime. Normally after so much sexual tension in a book it's gratifying to have the two antagonists finally put their petty differences aside and get down to business. This book left me drifting between loving it and feeling slightly cheated. After the explosive cliffhanger of Dreamfever, I so devasted by Barrens' death I was dying to know what Ms. Moning would do to make the story still as hot and interesting. The story was just as riveting as always but it just wrapped up so neat and tidy that I was left feeling... well, cheated. I still give five stars because I rarely find an audiobook I can get just as abosrbed in as a written text and the plot twists kept me guessing. I have listened to or read every Moning book and will continue to do so without hesitation. I'm waiting for my next highlander or another Jericho ;-)~
I am a fan of Karen Moning after reading her Highlander series. However, her fae series just falls short. I am disappointed as she knows how tell a great story with her ability to mix conversation with action and always makes me want to run into one of her great Scots.
After listening to all five books the first narrator's male voices were painful so acquiring Phil Gigante is what saved it for me. Most of the time I wanted to shove a sock down Mac's throat. I'm not sure if Mac's constant redundant internal mental whining was to stretch the series out but it certainly brought the quality of this series down.
Although this was not my favorite there are things that separately where fantastic. Jericho Barron's character is one of her best. I consistantly waited for him to show up on the page and at my house!. And, well...Mr Gigante...seriously I want you for my birthday. I have caught myself replaying a scene or two just to hear that rattle and the words that follow. You sir, have a gift.
I didn't want to detract from the rating this book already has, but, WHAT? I downloaded the book and for 20 minutes all I heard was whining and annoying dramatics. I don't think that in my early twenties or my teenage years would I have found this engaging. Because I bought it, I will listen to the rest of it, maybe it will pull me back from annoyance. If that is the case, I will rewrite this. So far, though, making no sense.
This series is by far my very favorite of all time! You will be hooked from the very beginning. The author wrote a brilliant story and the actors preformed it to perfection! The only thing that would make it better is if you have the soundtrack to the book playing in the background while it is playing!
This book was amazing! It wrapped up all of the questions from the previous 4 books. I loved this book! I have already read it twice!!!! Great narrators. Do not start with this book....but if you've read the first 4, this one will knock your socks off!!!
