I gave this book a low rating because I hated the way the male characters were performed and the females were only a little bit better. What I enjoy about this type of book is the characters and the narrator. The males all sounded like they were very old and the lead male was even garbled. I kept falling asleep and never even felt like listening to the end. I was very disappointed with the experience.
Hope, Dreams, Love
The description of the destruction of a place in the story.
She was good at portraying the characters and making Derek seem more vulnerable and strong at the same time.
Nothing. Would like listening to another book narrated by Rosalyn Landor.
Glad to be part of the audible community and I hope that my reviews help to choose the right book and share my love of reading.
Flat story. Characters are unrealistic, bland and underdeveloped. Some emotions or behaviors were well characterized but overall this is a miss.
The performance killed it for me. The female voices were stiff and over articulated. The male voices were horrible. They made me cry and I am still sobbing.
English was well written. Some aspects poked my wanting to keep listening but there was no connection between the reader and the characters
Would not waste a credit on this book and avoid this narrator
I only have purchased the audio edition and would not have been able to read the book.
The Era it was set in
The voice for the male charachter was almost startling at times! The female characters were perfect pitch though.
Mother of 3, grandmother of 6, retired nurse and substance abuse counselor. Thrilled to have the time to read or listen to books again.
Ms. Kleypas has a real talent for writing love stories that grab your interest and keeps it through out the entire book. I also just love how she writes a different book about every character in her series, how each of them have to earn their happily ever after. I rate all her books at least a 4 star rating with the exception of the 2 Russian books which I felt didn't quite measure up to her usual standard. I always look for her books when perusing my wish list and hers are usually the first that go into my cart. This book was especially sweet as I was drawn to Derrick when I read Lilly's story and wondered what she would do with his character.
I throughly enjoyed the book, another good job Ms. Klepas and of course no fault can ever be found with the narrator Rosalyn Landor.
Something about yourself.
This is such a great read. The plotting, characters, secondary characters, location, friends, fashion, and passion all very consistently high quality. I did not enjoy the narrator's portrayal of Derek Craven. I also think his name should've been Crave because Craven means coward and that was a weird name for a good guy.
Derek. He loves people even though he tries to push them away.
Her accent(s) is terrific!
Yes and twice!
This book is a book you will want to listen to more than twice. Delicious!
Time spent commuting passes by much easier listening to books. I prefer romance books but I do enjoy other books as well.
I actually read this book for the first time a long time ago. I've read it and listened to it multiple times since then and it never gets old. So, since I didn't review it before, I'm reviewing it now.
Derek and Sarah's story is just everything you could ask for in a great romance. I've laughed and cried each time. You can just feel the love coming from this story as if it were something tangible that you could reach out and touch.
I won't go into the particular parts of the story. I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone but when you get to the part when the club burns down, you better grab some tissues. The action and drama in this story will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end and the love emanating from this couple will warm your heart.
I am a HUGE fan of Lisa Kleypas. I've purchased everything she's ever written and will continue to as long as she keeps writing. If you look at the overall ratings of her books you'll see that most of them rate a 4 or higher. There's a reason for that and this book lives up to it. She has a lot of cross over characters between books which I also like. It gives you little glimpses of how the characters are doing in their lives.Which is something I like. I like seeing how they are doing. I would still like to see her write Derek and Sarah's children's stories.
The Narrator: Rosalyn Landor is an excellent for historical romance narrator. She's not overly stodgy, her voices are well defined and her acting is good. She may be excellent at other types too but my experience with her has only been with her reading the historical period romances.
