I'm a retired mental health professional now I make jewelry while listening to audio books. I live in the NW corner of the contenent.
I probably would not listen to this book a second time because I do not usually read science fiction. If this is scifi then I didn't know how much I like it.
This was definitely a parallel universe. I liked the characters and enjoyed the suspense.
Orson loves to get inside your head. He loves to tinker with our thoughts and shares what the characters are thinking and the arguments they have inside their own heads. Sometimes I get annoyed and need a break from these arguments and reasoning's, but they are what make them so awesome.
The Ender Series I think is a good match. Different, but very much like Orson's typical "inside your head" thought processes.
They are all stellar narrators. I enjoyed Rigg and Umbow but loved the other characters too. Bravo to the director and whomever selected this cast of narrators. Always hits a winning group with Orson's books.
Extremem? Hm... I don't want to give anything away. There were times where I laughed out loud, sometimes I was annoyed and nervous. Cry... no, that's reserved for books like Little Women.
I'm on the second in the series, but I have to say I need breaks from Orson's books because he digs so deep into the human psyche and I just need to recoup from all that "thinking" that he does in his books.
I like the concept of the storyline, but the frequent and overly detailed dissertations on the mechanics of space time manipulation bogged down the flow of the story. I could not maintain a consistent level of interest
I also feel cheated after investing so much time and dragging my way through the story only to find an incomplete ending. I did not know this book was part of a series, but even if I had, I still expect the majority of the loose ends to be tied up and major problems to be solved by the end of a book.
All of this amounts to me being annoyed enough that I will probably not continue with the rest of the series.
My over all review is on the final book of the Pathfinder trilogy. Each book I have their own desperate rating and I'm the final book I have my final opinion of the series.
Husband, father of 2, and a software developer moving slowly and unsteadily into management. I love reading, especially fiction & history
I love the story and the paradox inducing time travel arguments made me laugh out loud. The narrators are great, really lending a flavor to the characters
