Don't know. Didn't read the print version
The amazing will to live and not give up under conditions of extreme duress
No. Too long to do that.
This one had me coming back every day for another sequence. Very satisfying and engaging story. Extreme drama.
The exacting detail of this saga makes for a very difficult listen. At times, I had to stop listening....I just couldn't hear more of the atrocities these men suffered.
This is not my ususal type of book but WOW this was great. Laura Hillenbrand has written a great read that will hold your attention and keep you reading for hours.
Louie by far.You had to admire both his physical and mental fortitude under such adverse circumstances.
His tone was great nothing was ever overdone.
I will say there were times my heart sank and I was moved deeply by both the brutality and the camaraderie.
As a runner I would listen to Unbroken as I ran, on days when I should have rested I ran just so I could hear this story, one that I will never forget.
It might be the best book thus far...
The story is well-written, Edward Herman does a masterful job with the narration. I listened to the book a couple of hours a day for a week, I might listen to it again...
His narration is smooth and soulful, excellent job.
The last chapter brought tears to my eyes...
This is what all audio books should strive to be...
Right at the top. This is an amazing story. Beautifully written and very moving!
Louie, of course, was the main man. His will to live and his changed life was remarkable. But the Bird was such a psychopath! He was a fascinating character to follow and hate.
The narrator has a wonderful, expressive voice fitted well to this material.
Broken dreams, unimaginable suffering, amazing redemption...
The narrator for this book was excellent!
The story while disturbing at times was a eye opening to details of WWII that I have never known and wouldn't have found out had it not been told in a wonderfully told story as this was done.
Thrilling, Intriguing, Captivating
The entire time that Louis and the two other men were in the ocean. Their resilience and determination were phenomenal.
There were moments when tears came to my eyes. My heart rejoiced when Louis came to faith in Jesus Christ and surged forward to make good on his ocean promise to serve God with his life.
The strength and fortitude that Mr. Zamperini showed throughout WWII despite all the horrible and in humane acts of violence that were directed towards him and the other prisoners was unbelievable.
I am familiar with Mr. Herrmann's work as an actor which is alway very riveting. This is the first audible book of his that I've listened to which I thought was excellent.
When Mr. Zamperini went to the Billy Graham revival and he remembered his promise to God if he survived when he was stranded in the middle of the ocean with no food, no water and sharks waiting for him.
I have already recommended this book to several people. It is one of the most enjoyable audible books I have listened to. It is amazing to think that Louis Zamperini is still living and enjoying life. His experiences throughout the war were much more horrendous than I would have ever thought. My thanks to the author, Laura Hillenbrand, for writing this wonderful story. She made it come to life and was very hard to put down.
The story line was incredible. Talk about a person's will to live being so strong!! I think God had a plan for Louie and what a life that was.
Too many memorable moments, both good and bad to pick one.
When Louie fulfilled his promise to God to serve him, not only was that a great moment, but also a moment that changed his life forever.
This book could have also been named An American Hero.
Thank you to the author for telling Louie's incredible tale.
