This story of Louis Zamperini left me inspired and in awe of this man's perseverance through obscene obstacles and how he managed to repair his broken soul.
Plus, listening to "mr Gilmore" narrate was lovely .
I did not know the story of Louis Zamperini before listening to this book. I am amazed at the strength of the this man's spirit. This story went beyond my wildest imagination I cheered and I wept.

I've read (and listened) to
many WWII and military books in my lifetime, but I can't think of a single one that tops this one.
Well researched, and well written, this book puts you right in to the action. I happened to have watched the movie first, there is so much more to the story that only the written (or audio) form of the book can provide. The story will have you in tears and later, leaping for joy through the many trials and tribulations.
Just an incredible story of survival, bravery and ultimately the grace of God. The author scored another victory for her subjects and herself.
If you like personal stories about WWII history you should like this. Good story, at 38 years old I have never heard of these people, how easily the world forgets...sort of sad I'd say
Ms Hillenvrand is a wonderful writer weaving Louie's story through history with grace. Truly a story of human resilience and forgiveness that gives one hope for mankind even in the most troubled times.
